Finding Airports to travel from

Does anybody know how I can find out which airports/airlines are used to travel to a particular destination?
Everywhere I look and click-on seems to take me to a site where the first box asks where you are travelling FROM. I do not know where I will be travelling FROM. I know where I want to go but I do not know which airlines run from which airport to those destinations.

This is so frustrating. Say, for example, I want to have a holiday in Gibraltar. I don't much care which one of a dozen airports the holiday starts in and will look at each offer in turn.

HOWEVER, I cannot seem to find a way to say "Show me all airlines and/or airports that travel to/from Gibraltar"

Does anybody have any ideas on how to overcome this?

Thanks
Max

Look on the airports own website, they usually list destinations they are connected to. (Look on Gibraltar's for example)

Thanks Pete, but that means I have to search every airport in the UK each time I choose a new destination.
I appreciate your time but I do not feel this is an options that would serve my purpose very well. Do'able but difficult.

    No, I think you've mis-read PeteDoff's post.
What PeteDoff means is look at your destination airport's website - that'll tell you which airports in the UK flights to there fly from

eg from a very quick glance at http://www.gibraltarairport.gi/ I can see from the live flight info that flights are arriving from Manchester, Luton, Gatwick and Heathrow. Their destination map also shows Birmingham as a destination

Simples - use www.skyscanner.com - key in UK as departure point and a true destination and it will then bring up all the UK departure points and airlines for that location

JackieBlack: Yes, I had mis-read it. thanks. It sorta works but not really what I was looking for. Do a search for Varna for example (Bulgaria) and it will get even worse if you were going to a really busy international airport (say, Chicargo).

K3LVC: Skyscanner is worse then useless. Try UK to Varna and click on search. You will get a list of uk airports. Choose one (not luton) and you will get a 'not found' reply. The only airport that flys that route is from Luton but if I didn't already know that it would mean clicking on each airport in turn - back to square one.

    Thanks for the input guys.

https://www.kayak.co.uk - has a tickbox for nearby airports

http://matrix.itasoftware.com/ - find this quite complicated but it may be what you are after

On Kayak, if you click on 'more' at the top of the screen and then 'direct flights' you can enter a departure airport and month to find what airports are served by what airlines - bear in mind codeshares can confuse this

Sandlake: Thank you for replying but you are missing the point. I do not know what the departure airport is. That is what I am trying to find out. There must be a site out there somewhere where I can enter a destination and it will show me all the uk airports that fly to that destination without me having to trawl through them all. Sigh!

    use http://matrix.itasoftware.com/search.htm

choose an airport then click the nearby button This gives you a range eg 300 miles Just tick all the airports in that list that you could fly from the add departures dates and destination- its quite simple

OR use skyscanner but the other way round- say put in gibraltar as departure airport and uk as destination and it will show you where flights go to

OK - let me take my explanation a bit further seeing as you haven't stipulated dates (although you probably will now to add another 'fixed' to mix)

On Skyscanner select UK then destination airport, tick 'prefer directs' then select either whole month or whole year. Anything that then comes up with a price rather than 'get prices' is a valid route - all you then need to do is pick an appropriate day to travel

Alwaysskint96: That site is brilliant! thank you. I have tried a few options on it and is nearly what I want and certainly works until I find another.

K3lvc: Thanks, I will give that a try.
