How to remove and reinstall a cockspur window handle?

Hi guys, as the title says,

I have a cockspur window handle as shown below, I want to remove and reinstall a new nicer looking one.

How do I do this? What tool do I need?

Thanks in advance.

How is it fixed to the window? I can't see any screws.

Not a clue.. lol. Was hoping someone may have known off the top of their head.

I will have a look in more detail tomorrow, could possibly be glued.

Are screws expected in the holes?

Given that it's got fixing holes, it's probably either screwed or riveted.

If it's screwed on, that should be easy. If it's riveted, you'll need a drill to drill the heads off the existing ones, and a pop-rivet gun to put in new ones.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
  • Can you see any screws in there? Perhaps I need a trip to Specsavers!

    These are riveted in place.

    Drill out and re-rivet...

... should you REALLY want to :D

Unfortunately I do.. as some of the handles are broken...

Whats the best way to drill out? simply drilling the rivet to grind it down? Obviously being very careful not to damage the window frame.. It's never simple is it.. :rotfl:

That's a glass out job, drill rivets out and attach new handles. Tools req, decent cordless, 5mm drill, mallet or hammer and sharp pointed punch to knock out the steel center of the rivet, pop rivet gun and some 4.8x14mm rivets. Or pay someone who knows what they're doing

Definitely rivets. I'd go with what SatanicHare has said.

You need a drill that's a bit smaller than the rivet head, but bigger than the hole in the centre. Just slowly drill the rivet until the head falls off.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
