Guns! I didn't think they still used those! *shudder*

The fact they didn't even offer you a mirror to check them (which is presumably the reason you didn't look at them before you left?) screams to me never go back there. You've lost £15 but I wouldn't let them anywhere near my head to put it right. Take them out, let them heal, go and get them done with an actual needle by a professional, which will certainly be less painful especially with scar tissue.

I've had several piercings and they have always offered me a mirror to check I'm happy before they do the job.

I have to second this. Guns are just not right. Also, they can't properly sterilise them, only the individual piece of jewellery they put in.

I would take them out, and go to a professional piercer to get it done with a needle. It will heal better, and it's cleaner and safer.

I was obviously so horrified by the thought of guns I couldn't get it out of my head.

Just to echo everyone else, you need to get them done properly and somewhere reliable.
AVOID anywhere on the high street or otherwise who uses a Caflon gun. You'll find that 99.9% of the time, if someone's only piercing using a gun, they will have no proper piercing training at all. You can pick one of those guns up for £20 on eBay.
When piercing with a gun, you're firing a blunt object through skin at a high speed, this will only lead to trauma for the area involved.
Whilst the guns can be used for piercings (some professional studios still have them and will use them on request) you will face a higher likelihood of infection, a longer healing time and a higher likelihood of keloids due to the type of metal used.
Find yourself a reliable tattoo studio or dedicated piercing studio, and go speak to them. Not only will they advise you what to do with the current situation, but once your ears have healed, they will pierce them properly. The best option would be a needle piercing, especially as you already have scar tissue, as this will reduce the likelihood of keloids. There will also be less likelihood of infection due to all equipment being sterilised.
And yes, a good piercer will also mark where they intend to pierce and then let you inspect the work afterwards.

I would recommend you report the salon where you were pierced to the local council. They should have a license to pierce. If they do, it needs revoking for the way they behaved, if thy don't, they need investigating.
