Virgin Media Raising my Mobile Tariff??

Dear All

I've just received a letter from Virgin Media/Virgin Mobile stating that they're increasing my mobile tariff from the 22nd of July 2014 by 67.5p a month or £8.10 per annum.

I have a 24month contract which I am 10 months into.

I do not appear to have any choice in this or do I?

Would appreciate some feedback on my options as this does not seem fair.

Many thanks

What does your contract say about the 68p rise?

No, it isn't fair. If you take out an airtime agreement for £20 a month over two years (for example) then excluding overage or changes in VAT then that is the price you should pay.

I've had a look on the Virgin Media website and found the following:

5.2 Price changes: We may also change our Charges or introduce new Charges. Unless the change is a significant change as set out in clause 5.3 we will give you 14 days notice of any change to the Charges for the elements of the Services or Additional Services you are using.

5.3 Significant changes: We will notify you at least one month in advance of any change coming into effect that (in our reasonable opinion):
    (a) where you joined or renewed your contract on or before 22nd January 2014, will increase the monthly or other periodic Charges for your Contract Allowance by an amount which is more than the percentage increase in the previous twelve month period in the Retail Prices Index (or any future equivalent) published by the Office for National Statistics; or
    (b) where you joined or renewed your contract on or after 23rd January 2014, will increase the monthly or other periodic Charges for your Contract Allowance
    (c) is a change to your Agreement, the Services or any Additional Services you are using, or to the Charges for any Services or Additional Services you are using, which is likely to be of material detriment to you.

5.4 Non acceptance of changes: If you do not accept a change that falls within clause 5.3 you may cancel this Agreement by writing to us within 1 month of us telling you about any change, to let us know that you want to cancel. However you may not cancel this Agreement if such change: (a) has been imposed on us by any regulator with appropriate authority, for example OFCOM, or as a direct result of new legislation, statutory instrument or government regulation; or (b) relates solely to an Additional Service. If this is the case then you may cancel such Additional Service by giving us a least ten days notice in writing to that effect.

BIB: I'm not sure if referring to ONS for the RPI is classed as being able to terminate your agreement early but I'd use the Live Chat facility on their website and see what they come back with.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

I am curious about this too. It says on the back of the letter you can cancel but what I'm unclear on is whether it would be immediate cancellation or not.

Basically tomorrow I had planned to call Virgin to give 30 days notice before my contract ends next month. I am wondering whether I can use this price rise to my advantage to avoid having to stay until the end? I know it's only for the sake of 1 month but I am in dire need of a new phone so it would be great if I can! I have no intention of staying with them so I won't be accepting any upgrade they try to offer, I just want to leave.

I also would like peoples feedback with this one.

Having a nightmare with VM and their Customer Service at the minute - they are clueless! Anyways, this is the second time they have increased the prices on their tariffs for me within my 24 month contract. It's just one thing after another with this company at the minute!
