MCZ Biomass pellet stoves - experiences?

Hi,

I'm looking at the MCZ biomass products as I have size constraints in the property and wanted to see if anyone has experience with these stoves that have the windows?

They don't seem to be much more expensive than the plain grey boxes and even tho it will be going in a utility room I like the idea of seeing the flame and having the option to blow hot air out to dry clothes if they are hanging in there.

I believe they have done some adjustments to the crucible etc to improve the designs recently.

Anyone got these installed and can give feedback?

I'd probably be looking to install with a unvented water tank. Can anyone give suggestions on these?

Cheers,

Rick

There are owners of MCZ pellet stoves on this forum and a search (top right) will bring up reliability problems which appear to be due to a design fault.

I did see those in the past but they seem to relate to the Compact 24 which is the other design. I got the impression that it was due to the electrics on the initial machines that came over. The retailer did say that they react well to feedback on the manufacturing stage and have changed certain designs already.

Just wondering if it is anything other than the ignition spark on the MB that people have experienced?

I don't really know of any other smaller units that are on the cheaper end of the scale (I need sub £10k for full install).

The Klover pellet stoves seem to be highly regarded and I thought looked good at the NEC National Home Renovation Show a few months ago.

I'll have a good look at those. They look very similar and I'll have to look at feedback. I was at the show but not to see biomass.

Are you considering having one of these installed?

I was homing in on getting a Klover PB24 installed (outside boiler room) so I did due diligence on Klover.

I made a number of improvements to insulation and air tightness last autumn so decided to postpone changing the boiler until I had measured the effectiveness of last year's work. I'm glad I did because I don't need nearly as big a boiler now. In fact, a wood burning stove and air to air heat pump have replaced the central heating, which apart from a few tests, hasn't been used since 5 March.

Sounds like an interesting project Robwiz (the insulation/air tightness), you should post about it (if you haven't already).

Thanks for your feedback. I've done lots of interesting experiments and I'm learning more all the time. As I've posted though, it takes a whole year to get the whole story because of the effect of temperature, pressure, relative humidity, wind, rain and sun on conditions inside the house. I still don't have answers to a couple of thermal bridging problems yet.

We're doing a number of improvements to as part of the renovation so I've asked our project manager to calculate the demand after the insulation has been installed. Hopefully that will allow for a smaller unit!
