Anyone else tried this, so that the natural sebum in your hair "self-cleans"?
I've got dark blonde hair down to my waist, and I've been going 3 weeks so far...
I have heard that the group "Take That" never used shampoo only water to wash thier hair. Listening to an interview years later one group member said that this was true but he did not like it at all. So I guess it's possible0 -
i grow soap wort, but haven't played with washing with it yet...
anyone had a successful go at it?What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0 -
Well, I've been doing a lot of research on this subject now, and continuing with my experiment!
I haven't used shampoo for 5 weeks now, just rinsing my hair with water and combing it through to spread the subum down the lengths.
I've also learned that you can use Bicarbonate of Soda to control greasy roots, and the best conditioner is Apple Cider Vinegar, diluted with water and rinsed through the hair.
Apparently, shampoo is a detergent that damages your hair (although some brands now include condioning elements to help counteract that). Soap is a natural way to wash your hair.
The problem is that hard water is alkalein - the scales on your hair stand up and become bristly when exposed to alkalein PHs. So soap is ineffective. However, by using an acid (like vinegar, or lemon), you encourage the scales of your hair to lie flat, giving you a soft, shiny, healthy barnet.
I certainly found the first few weeks of "no 'poo" a bit tough, but my hair's feeling much better now and will only become more self-sufficient... and I've saved cash of course!Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
I'm a Green People fan myself, love the Aloe Vera shampoo and conditioner. The bottles might seem a bit expensive, but believe me, they will last for months and months, and they are real quality products to boot.
They often have offers on this and that, so it is well worth dropping by their site every now and again.
Green People's organic shampoo0 -
I got some naked shampoo and it made my scalp really flaky, i poured it down the sink this morning:eek: then used the empty bottle for my diluted magic soap.
I've followed nappy501's advice, got a bottle of lavender magic soap, diluted it with water, added a pinch of bicarb and rosemary and geranium oils. I washed my hair 3 days ago, had to wash it again today and its so thick and bouncy:D:T:D im really impressed. Im going to start using coconut oil as a conditioner soon, when i can find more time in the day. I've also been getting dh to stroke my hair, its so soft and lovely now.:rotfl:Btw, i usually had to wash my hair daily.
I got a freebie sample of Green People shampoo today, but i think im sold on Dr Bronners now. I would also like to follow badger lady and not use anything, maybe in winter though,:o so i can stick a hat on for those first few weeks. I used a cider vinegar rinse a few weeks ago, but i was still using a normal shampoo then, so it had little effect. I might give my liquid soapnuts another go, but im never going back to normal shampoo ever again.0 -
Elia- you don't have any connections with the company do you? Just wondered....or maybe you write advertising copy for a living?0

Nah
Just like their stuff.
I guess maybe I should be looking at a new career?0 -
Lush is good although I live in a hard water area and find it less good than when I had softer water. I now use Aveda - if you buy the 1l bottles they last forever so cut down on waste etc.
They do a shampoo especially for hard water, called Hard
EDIT: Someone's already written this, sorry!!0
