Have you tried MOP Modern Organic Products, i know you can get their stuff from QVC i think John Lewis or Selfridges, not too pricey, the Styling Tonic sprayed on wet hair can tame my unmanageable thick curley hair, it acts as a leave in conditioner and styling product.

You have to be careful with MOP - not everything is chemical free, and the US organic accreditation, which they use, is not as stringent as the UK

For example (and at least here I can say they are honest and publish their full ingredients online, unlike original Source), in their Mixed Greens shampoo which features on their front page, of the 39 ingredients (inc. SLS), just 6 are certified organic, and they aren't main ingredients.

Their C-system range doesn't have SLS or SLES, but does contain parabens

It all depends if you're avoiding particular chemicals or all chemicals.

I like Jason's Sea Kelp shampoo and conditioner - I'm not sure it's 100% chemical free (think there might be some 'cones' in it) but it contains no SLS and it's BUAV approved. 500mls cost me £5 I think.

I'm after some solid toiletries, mainly for travel purposes, with solids i can pack it into hand luggage for traveling light and hopefully it will also last longer/pack easier than liquids.

I've used the lush shampoo/conditioner and not that happy with the conditioning effects. My hair is very dry and thin, any suggestions anyone?

Also looking for a good moisteriser in a solid form.

I really like aubrey organics shampoo, which is made from natural soap and plant ingredients, simply because it made a big difference to my hair which has always been really dry and difficult. Nicest shampoo I've tried yet, it made my hair really soft and cleaned it well.

On the positive it worked great, a little went a long way and I only needed the shampoo and could skip conditioner, which is quite something when you have very dry hair. However, the down side is that it's expensive, I can only buy it mail order, it has to be imported from America, and it comes in plastic bottles. I'm not sure how it compares on environmental advantages when you take these things in to account, but I'll probably buy it again because I liked it and it worked well.

Sorry only just spotted this thread! I love Naked conditioner (you can buy it in Boots) but I just couldn't get on with the shampoo it really didn't lather for me, it could be because I have very long hair though so it might be better on shorter hair :-)

Another vote for naked here. I have longish (past the shoulder) length hair and although it doesn't lather as much, it still cleans. It's a bit dry on the ends but that is probably more due to daily ghd use.... :rotfl:

I'm using the Green People shampoo and conditioner, and whilst it doesn't lather up like conventional shampoos it is leaving my hair looking great.
After reading about this on here I have become obsessed with SLS etc and am amazed that not only is it in everything you wash yourself with ( hair and body), it is often the 2nd or 3rd ingredient after water.
NO EXCUSES - THIS YEAR IT'S PERSONAL..........

Another good shampoo which is free of nasties is the basic shampoo (unperfumed) sold by Neal's Yard. I buy the 500ml and then add tea tree oil to it to treat an itchy scalp and it is the only thing that keeps my scalp in control.

And it is not very expensive, the shampoo only costs around £6 if I remember well, then you add the essential oil of choice for scent and treatment.

Edited to say: all of you who buy Green People, don't forget that you can get 10% back going via Quidco!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • I really love Perle de Provence shampoo. You can buy it direct from their website https://sslrelay.com/www.perledeprovence.co.uk/sess/utn;jsessionid=15480b572215802/shopdata/index.shopscript
or I often buy it from Lemonburst.co.uk as they do free p&p.
The orange and cinnamon fragrance shampoo is lovely (and smells like Christmas to me!), as are the hemp and essential oil version. Each bottle tends to be around £5-6 but they do last a long time, and I wash my hair each day with them.
Faith in nature are also nice, but I was never 100% happy with the smells or the condition they left my hair in.
