So how much public humiliation can I face?

Training again the other night and Gitdog was his usual self, having great fun bouncing around making everyone laugh, ignoring at least half of what I said, with occasional flashes of "we can do this" just as I start to really despair of him ever taking the blindest bit of notice.
And at the end of the session the trainers mention a public demonstration they're doing, which they would like me and Gitdog to be part of. Nothing special, just the usual sit, stay and all the other stuff that doesn't happen very often, and especially not in new and exciting places.
So now I'm torn between not wanting to make a total pillock of myself (the almost guaranteed outcome) and thinking that he's such a friendly dog that even if (when) he's arsing around, it's still good PR for bull terriers. Talk me into it, anyone?
The culprit in question.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Go for it! All you have to lose is your dignity!
He looks a cutie.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -
I'm with tealady, go for it you could always pretend that you train your dog to act that way to make the others look good, or that you have been working on the 'before' training stage0

That look n his eyes is basically saying, 'go on, I dare you':rotfl:0

Not a fan of bullterriers - but he is lovely
He's got that look in his eyes "I'm not mischevious mother honest!":rotfl:0 -
How can you not do it?
It's a win-win situation:
If Gitdog performs well, think of the joy you'll feel
If Gitdog performs to type, think of the joy you'll give the audience0 -
oh he is gorgeous! Definitely agree you have nothing to lose. He'll either behave himself or he won't, but the latter would be very entertainingDMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

Aww he is gorgeous. Just look at that innocent face, there is no way he can be the pain in the butt you describe
I agree with everyone else, you should definately give it a go, he may just surprise you and if not I'm sure you'll both enjoy yourselves anyway0 -
he is gorgeous - he simply must be shown off0

That made me laugh - oh so true!
As an example, we were doing food manners at training the other week.
I was feeling smug - I knew we'd walk it as we do it every day at home and it would be the first time we'd done as well as/better than anyone else.
I failed to take into account that his bowl at home is a large solid metal thing whereas the bowl being used in training was a small pink plastic affair bearing a remarkable resemblance to a Frisbee. I'm sure you can guess the rest.
Learning outcomes for that session:
1) Pride comes before a fall
2) We really need to do a lot more work on our "drop" command.
3) Gritted teeth and swearing send him bouncing off the walls. Not good in enclosed spaces. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
