Cat going in neighbours house!

  • I have a fickle cat who will regularly visit several houses if given the chance. He has a cat friend who calls for him at the kitchen window, takes him back to his house for a while and then escorts him home.
He's brought some weird things home - meatballs, chips, bread rolls and one marshmallow spaceship, so he's obviously rummaging through the neighbours' kitchens.

We also have four cats that visit us from nearby houses and one giant tabby that chases people down the street demanding a fuss - I usually pick him up, give him a cuddle, put him on a wall and run for it.

I love having communal cats and the lady your cat is visiting obviously likes the company. Some cats are fickle by nature, but I wouldn't worry as long as he's coming home for his food.

I hope my new neighbours have a free cat for me. No cost, no litter trays, or having to feed it. One cat on demand ... fabulous.

Boot it out once I've had enough, or want to go out. Guilt free, free cats. We should all have one.

We had one in our old house. The house opposite us got two beautiful kittens. One obviously got wise to the lack of attention at 'home' and scarpered early on. The other one used to visit about 6 of us in turn. When the 'owners' moved they packed up their car, bent down to say bye to the cat then just drove off... right in front of us! We would happily have taken the cat in, as would at least 2 other neighbours. In the end he was happiest carrying on sharing us all. We used to check with each other about vet visits etc. to make sure he was looked after. All the love and fun.... no responsibility :)

Broke my heart when we moved house and had to leave him though, but I know he wouldn't have settled with just us.

I do think that it what people either love (or hate) about cats - the ability they have to do what they want, when they want. Stuff everyone else:rotfl:[/QUOTE]

You are so right. My boy, Benji, does exactly what he wants when he wants. His days are spent sleeping on whichever bed he chooses, currently mine. Last week, it was my son's. He moved out on the Saturday into his house with his fianc!e and Benji thought he would stake his claim to his room!

When Benji wants feeding, he lets you know. He runs through the cat-flap and zooms up the stairs in the middle of the night squeaking loudly announcing his arrival and his need for food and does everything he needs to get what he wants. Very single-minded is my boy when it comes to his stomach.

I don't think he goes into other people's houses because as large as he is he is a great big scaredy-cat. If he does, it can only be at night as he sleeps all day!

Yep, we have one next door!

In fact, it's hindering us getting our own cat, as OH says we already have a free one, why get one we'll have to pay for ;)

I like cats as much as the next person but theres no way I'd be putting up with that. Half the reason I don't want kids is because I don't want to be woken up all night, no way I'd take it from a cat!

One of my cats has found somewhere else to live after 11 years and, while she comes back for the occasional meal, she no longer wants affection from us, she won't suffer being stroked, doesn't greet us anymore etc. By contrast, the people at her 'new' home commented on how affectionate she is. We want her to be happy but I can't help feeling hurt and betrayed. In a quandary over whether to continue paying the pet insurance and wondering how we get her annual jabs done when we can't make an appointment because we don't know when she'll be back

Hand over the details of the vet and insurance and tell them if they continue to give food and shelter, affection to the cat then they need to take full ownership.
I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

I think some cats just prefer to be the 'only cat in the house'. We used to have 3 who never got on, but tolerated each other. Now we are down to 1 and when she became the only cat in the house she seemed to undergo a personality change overnight. She became soppy instead of stroppy. (although still, she does throw the odd tantrum if things are not to her liking...)
