Learn to make home made cards - where?

The Range. Go to The Range and price up the things they have in their crafting section.
I make cards for charity (and obviously for personal use, for relatives/friends birthdays etc) so I have to shop carefully in order to not over-spend as all the card stuff is coming out of my pocket and I don't receive any monies from the sale of the cards (all the proceeds go direct to charity). I've found that The Range offer an amazing supply of different crafting stuffs, from basic A4 card to ready sized, scored (and sometimes die cut) cards with envelopes. Then there are 'adornments' - or embellishments - which again they have a big range of.
As a previous crafter said: The Create and Craft Channel is a good way to actually watch people making a card, so that you can get ideas of how things are done - and also hints and tips. But ... try to not be tempted to buying too much from them, as you might be able to buy cheaper from the makers themselves. (However .. sometimes it actually is cheaper to buy from C&C - but check on the internet first before you spend your hard earned cash).
You Tube is filled to abundance with videos for making cards and finally, again as a previous crafter said: Blogs. A lot of bloggers will give you step by step instructions on how to make some of their cards - and even give you the names and makers of the 'stuffs' they use in the making of a card, so that if you want to buy (for example) the same ink pad that someone used, then you have the details of what that particular blogger used.
LOTS of the folks here have blogs - but none of us are allowed to promote our blogs in posts or in our signature bars (at the bottom of our posts) - and rightly so, because it could end up being a big advertising website if they were allowed and that would be horrid, so you have to click on a members name (over to the left of their post) and a little window will open up. Click on either 'view public profile' and then when a new page loads, click on 'contact' - which will give you their blog address (if they have a blog)... or click on their name to the left of their post and choose 'Visit ___name of person_____ Homepage' - which will take you directly to their Blog homepage.
You can then have a nose at their Cards (presuming that they make them).
But ... I think most card makers would say the same thing: there's a difference between Home Made and Hand Made. You'll see what that means when you start looking at cards which are available.
Oh ... Pinterest will also be your friend when looking for cards too!
And finally ... I agree with all the previous crafters who've warned of the addictive side of Crafting.
I started with the dining room table and a little space on a shelf of the bookcase.
I now craft in one lovely converted garage and have taken over almost all of it with craft stuff. (I share the garage only with the washing machine and some pretty boxes which house household stuff.)
OH ... and embossing/die cutting machines - one crafter said beware of spending the money ... well, I have two. I have a Sizzix Big Shot - which is a fabulous work horse and I love it. But I've recently acquired an Ebosser (Blush Ebosser) - which is an electric machine - so I don't have to crank a handle - bought purely because of a neurological problem which is now affecting my upper body strength & my shoulders/arms/hands - and I can't crank the handle of my Big Shot very much any more, so the Ebosser was bought as a gift for me (and I cried buckets of blubbering tears of gratitude when it was given to me!)
So personally, I wouldn't be without a die cutting/embossing machine - but ... make some cards before you invest and see if you like card making. (I made cards for about 5 years before I bought my Big Shot - so you don't necessarily 'need' one to make cards).
Very good luck with your new hobby. I hope you love it. ~ TC. xRemember: however thin you slice something, there are always two sides to everything.0 -
Thanks! :T I have Sky so I will look for the channel number when I get a mo - I am away tomorrow and Saturday and if I get a minute on Sunday I will look then (I am supposed to be researching and booking my holiday that day as I want to take advantage of Tescos x 5 deal). :money: :j
Sorry for not responding sooner but my husband broke his leg so I have been spending a lot of my time near the hospital and now that he is home we are staying at my parents so I will get looking into these suggestions when he is more independant.0
