    Hi JS_

At the moment, it's not possible to change from the Ecometer to the Chameleon energy display. This is because the Smart Meter and Energy Display come as a set.

The Ecometer will be set up to a particular type of Smart Meter. The Chameleon, though, is designed to work with another type of Smart Meter.

To go from one display to another would mean changing the entire metering set up at the property. Both the electric and gas meters would need to be changed.

The Smart Meters we're installing are designed to work only with the Energy Display that our engineer fitted.

This isn't set in stone, though. As smart technology continues to advance, it may be possible to re-visit this in the future. Best keep an eye on our website as new developments will be posted there.

Hope this answers your question. Let me know if you need any more information as happy to help.

Depending on the area, to benefit from E.ON's Economy 7 prices, you need to use approx between 45 and 55 per cent of electricity during the cheaper off peak night period.

Agree, too, about the percentage usage needed to benefit from multi-rate meters. My approximation is about E.ON only.

    I'll edit to make clear.
    Thanks Cardew

I just ran some comparisons on the cheapest E.ON tariff and found that Economy 7 was cheaper at 35% usage!

It is one of the many annoying features(with all energy companies) that when new tariffs are introduced, or old tariffs have a price increase, that the 'break even' point fluctuates.

It would be interesting to know what E.ON tariff(giving area/consumption figure) has a 55% break even figure.

No problem with you only answering on behalf of your own products, but surely if you are to give such advice, you should either use an average or specify the particular region and consumption.

I asked you a couple of days ago in another thread about these figures and demonstrated to you that with us living in the East Midlands supply region and using 6000kWh p.a of electricity, only 35% of which is used at the low rate, we were still better off on both Eon's standard rate tariff (which we are currently on) and your cheapest tariff for us, the 1 year Fixed tariff v6.

In all cases we were only loooking at about £20-£30 differences. Can't wait until our iSupply application gets actioned and we can start saving in the order of £200 a year, about 25% of current cost.
(and E7 is cheaper with them too for our situation as I also explained in my earlier post)

    Afternoon both

Take your point about this. I've just re-visited some of the posts where I've commented on tariffs for multi-rate meters and made amendments.

The intention was to raise awareness of the need to use a certain amount of electricity during off peak times before it becomes beneficial. Hopefully to help the OPs but also for the benefit of others.

I always state approximately but can see where this can be misinterpreted where I also mention a percentage.

So, going forward, I'll continue to highlight the need to use certain levels of electricity but leave out percentages.

Cardew, as you say, price changes/new tariffs are continually moving the goal posts.

Thanks for the heads up. Taken on board. Changes have and will continue to be made in my posts.
