I'm not down on people who have council houses, but I do question why they should get far more rights than those of us that have to rent privately).
thats the point - guy- right there

No one should be treated any different to anyone else in terms of tenure.

But when the governments decided a marketplace was what we needed, thats what we got and rights are out of the window

    VIVA CAPITALISM!
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

You find me offensive, but agree I have a point?

Three children does sound a bit much, could you not have had the self-control to limit yourself to one or two? Contraception is easily available these days - it's good money saving option.:money:

Affording a mortgage is not a requirement for being able to bring up your kids, being able to support yourself & you offspring is - so you need to be able to feed, clothe & provide shelter for them. Sounds like you manage this - after a fashion. (I'm not down on people who have council houses, but I do question why they should get far more rights than those of us that have to rent privately).

Your easily confused, I agree with your point that too many benefits are given to those who choose not to work but this has nothing to do with the issue of this thread as these people have never been able to afford their own homes. Your choice of the word Breed shows complete contempt for anyone claiming benefit and is a word most use when talking about animals, it's this that I find so offensive.

Why should I limit how many children I have? Who are you to say what is too much? You are just trying to get a rise now and are coming across as a very bitter old man.

Lastly, what benefits do you think council tenants get that private tenants don't? From what I've seen of private rented houses, they are generally better maintained than council housing.

No, my choice of the word breed indicates I have contempt for people that are not aware of the repercussions of their actions - just like animals.
Why should I limit how many children I have? Who are you to say what is too much? You are just trying to get a rise now and are coming across as a very bitter old man.
Bitter? you better believe it, but I'm only 30, so not so old.;)

If you can't support your kids then you shouldn't have so many - but we've already established that, after a fashion, you can. There is a greater question about whether this country or planet can support your kids, all those woods & green spaces that you mentioned earlier. Well if everyone has so many kids there won't be any left - it's a bit selfish to have more than enough to replace you & your partner. That would mean that, what with those of us who can't find anyone to who'll let them get close enough to fertilise their eggs, we'll see a gradually declining population which means more green space, bumble bees & less starvation.:T

Lastly, what benefits do you think council tenants get that private tenants don't? What what I've seen of private rented houses, they are generally better maintained than council housing.
    Subsidized rent
    Security of tenure
    Right{sic} to buy
& if you think private rental accommodation is better looked after that council houses, I suggest you call up a few letting agencies & see what you can rent for the money you pay now - in fact double it & see what you can get.
"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.

This is 2007, make the calculations a % of wage/salary so that everybody pays equal?

Affordable Housing? Absolutely, surely it is a Human Right not to live in a slum with a landlord getting megabucks from rent?

Wow, so we slip into communism because of HPI?
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

My kids (10, 6 and 4) have a struggle ahead of them if they want to be able to afford their own home, but that's their problems and they'll have to work to get good jobs in order to be able to buy or rent.

Sadly, these days getting a good education and/or working hard are no

longer a guarantee that you will be able to afford your own home.

Most of the money people think they have "earned" and "deserved" through

hard work has, in fact, been a result of HPI.

Builders could buy cheaper land and then build cheaper houses...,

Cheaper houses? Have you seen the houses most builders build these days? What can they do to make the houses even cheaper? Make them from straw perhaps.

Cheaper land? Agricultural land is cheaper but if houses were going to be built on it, the value would increase. It would be worth the same as similar building land in similar areas. Clearly, if a lot of agricultural (or green belt) land was released the cost would fall - but it would still be worth much more than agricultural land.

    :)

unless you have some plans for mass genocide that aint going to happen

Bird Flu? Mind you the last thing we'd be thinking about is affordable Housing, if it ever happened!
  • How do you make housing more affordable without bringing down the price of existing houses (which would p!ss off existing homeowners)?

Say you built some new houses on green belt land for £75,000 each while others half a mile away were selling for £200,000. Either the £75,000 shoots up in value, which is nice for whoever bought it but does nothing to help those who missed out, or the £200,000 plummets in value, and no homeowner would ever vote for any policies where that might happen.
