Broken Phone no insurance

HELP PLEASE!
I upgraded my EE phone to a Galaxy S5 on 24th May and took out insurance for an additional £10 per month.
Two weeks later I decided to cancel my insurance (based on the fact that I had had my last phone 2 years and not needed it - oops!) then last week I dropped my phone and it died, badly. We're talking smashed screen and no picture.
Obviously I know I had cancelled my insurance at the time I dropped the phone, and I'm clutching at straws here but.....
EE have charged me for the first months insurance up to 23rd June and I have not been refunded this money.
Three questions:
1. Do you think I have a chance of claiming with EE? I did ring them but they hung up on me!
2. If I can't claim am I entitled to a refund of the £10 premium?
3. What is the least expensive way for me to get me phone fixed if I have no luck with EE? I'm being quoted well over £200!
And yes, I've definitely learned my lesson!!!!
A rather embarrassed Emma

This depends on how you have cancelled (from the month 2 or with immediate effect) and why they haven't refunded you (if the insurance was cancelled with immediate effect and the refund was due pro-rata).
It's worth starting with reading what the policy says about cancellation.0 -
If you've paid the premium then would be covered for that period. assuming that the premium is paid for the month in advance.
Did you upgrade online or instore, since they've not since billed you without the insurance is there scope to ensure its taken out..0 -
As above.
What date did you cancel specifically? And what date are your bills produced (not debited from bank but when you get yr new allowances)?0 -

If OP paid and then cancelled mid bill cycle, this won't be the case. It will have been cancelled within 24 hours of her requesting cancellation and she will receive a pro rata refund on her next bill as Grumbler says.0 -
Does your house contents insurance have accidental damage cover, in which case you might already be covered anyway. However, look at your policy from EE as you might have been insured for the first month, check the dates of the payments - if it was a monthly rolling contract, the fact that you requested to terminate may not take effect until a month has elapsed. Ff they haven't refunded the premium then you should have been insured (however they might refund it now, just to get out of paying)Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

As. I mentioned, it is cancelled within 24 hrs of request. There will be a pro rata refund on the next bill.0
