if futures are reducing the likelihood of a rate increase (and I'm still not sure they are actually), what the hell is still propping up sterling (against the dollar i mean)? it can't just be the yield differential between US and UK rates.BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? november: ruled out because it's too close to xmas. october unlikely because i think by then there will be a fairly big market sell-off. that leaves september and just one last possibility of a .50 increase. unlikely? yes. but that would be the only credible thing to do. but they don't have the guts...BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? It might be worth looking at the odds of a Fed cut next time. (Un)employment figures weren't great today.0

...God knows what that will do to the dollar - could send the dollar index into freefall:eek: , and that's a problem not just for the USA, but for the rest of the world (especially if the pound keeps on rising).BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? Yup - looking increasingly likely that the next movement will be downward, in line with any Fed cuts.
Given that house prices now seem to be stabilising, its likely that we’ll see the bank go sideways for a while and then back down again in the new year.
Fingers crossed, anyway !!0 -
10% YoY increase isn't much of a stabilisation in my book, I accept it's better than 20% YoY, but it's still over twice wage inflation.
I'm still comfortable with my prediction for 6.25% by Jan 2008."Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
