Falling food prices seem to be more to do with supermarket price wars than bad weather.

    e.g. link

Falling furniture prices most likely a function of the strong pound (and weak demand due to bad weather?)

Petrol and gas prices are falling due to strong pound

Not sure if it counts, but my local tesco was selling garden furniture for pennies at the end of last month to make way for the back to school stuff.
"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.

Healthy food prices will soar in 2007/8. The recent floods wiped out 40% of the pea crop, leeks will also have been affected and it's been impossible to get decent broccoli recently.

We are also increasingly at the mercy of Russian controlled gas supplies. This matters much more in the medium / long term than the recent strength of the £.

It's definitely time to get some garden furniture / barbecue bargains, though :).

Well you can use the garden furniture on the BBQ to cook & keep your place warm - just got to think outside the box ;)

Edited to add - don't forget the box can be burned in extremis

Wonder who's bottom line all that's going to hit...

Suppose we'll have to wait for the trading statements - is this a sudden productivity leap or a touch of high-street panic?

The MPC cannot resist pushing them to 6%. I think this will be the peak given the 1.9% inflation figures. Remember, the last five rises are still working themselves into the economy. Also 287,000 people are due to come off fixed-rate deals by the end of the year !

Where do you get that figure from? I thought it was between 2m & 2.8m by the end of next year, which would make your figures somewhat on the low side!

We estimate that over 2 million fixed rate deals will mature this year and next and that borrowers who took out two year fixed rate deals two years ago will face substantial increases in their payments when their existing fixed rate products mature in the second half of this year and throughout 2008

    From the CML

Probably a good time to buy cigarette and booze company shares. Their customers are addicts so will continue to buy their products even as their house is repo'd in many cases.
