just to clarify that I'm not unsympathetic to your situation but you've made 2 posts on this thread but you still haven't said what you want from pursuing this with the undertakers.

Maybe you should sit down and think if achieving an acknowledgement of lying (which I doubt will be forthcoming anyway) will make your own situation any better than it is now.

If you want to name and shame them to deter future customers, then I guess that's what you must do.

But if you are going to take the advice of 7roland8  then you should make sure you are 100% sure of your facts because if you publicly accuse the undertaker of lying, then you may open yourself up to a libel accusation.

Well if you want a response send a letter to your local paper to get the issue out in the open.

Dear Lord NO. This is a terrible idea. I think many people (myself included) have a very low opinion of people who go barking to the press to complain about something. It makes you look like a nasty little attention seeker, and puts you in a very bad light. Plus, I am not sure that the OP's loved ones would be very comfortable with her doing this.

Is it worth selling your soul to the gutter press for potentially a few hundred quid and just to get back at a company who didn't mean to upset you in the first place? Write THEM a letter of complaint, explaining your disdain by all means, so they can put measures in place to ensure it doesn't happen again, but don't drag the press into things!

I think the key is - what do you want the undertakers to do? Obviously they cannot go back and change things, and I do think that it is likely that the issues are down to poor communication, rather than lying.

For instance - in relation to your sister's funeral, the undertakers may have assumed that you had already spoken to the priest directly, and they they simply needed to finalise the details, hence the late notice - of course, in that situation, they could have been more careful about checking with you, bearing in mind that people who are grieving are seldom at their best, but a lack of effective communication is very different to deliberate lies.

If it is important to you to have a Catholic service for your sister, have you considered speaking to your / her priest to see whether a memorial service/mass would be possible? It's not uncommon for such a service to happen separately from the actual funeral.

One of the golden rules of making a complaint is to be clear about what you feel the other party did wrong, and what you want them to do to put it right (as far as it can be put right)

If you are mostly concerned that the undertakers should not put other people through a similar situation then you can look at submitting reviews, if they are part of a chain, or a trade body, you can raise it with those organisations, and clearly identify where you felt that there were failures of communication.
All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)
