Fingers crossed with Clomid

I am wondering is anyone out there is on the same rollercoaster as me at the moment....trying to get preg for 3 yrs now, found out last Sept that have PCOS (no indication of this before), very reg periods and no other side effects of the syndrome apart from infertility....was put on Metformin and told to lose weight....started Clomid 50g this month on day 2 of period and just at the waiting to ovulate stage....
Have others followed this route, and i am a little unsure if i should be still taking the Metformin aswell as the clomid?
Terrible appointments at hosp with very little information and so inpersonal, if i don't ask i don't get told and i forgot to ask this question, they are soo matter of fact with things....
Trying so hard not to get worked up about it working but so hard to get it off my mind...
If anyone has been on or going through this route, please let me know as need to check if I am not going mad !!!!

  • hi there
your storie is almost exactly the same as my best friends
apart from the metformin she never had them
she was on the same dosage of clomid as you an well lets say i almost made excuses to avoid her as he moods were terrible
she went on a 3 month course an nothing so came of for 3 month as advised by doc
then she took another 3 month course an nothing but as soon as she stopped the second time she got caught the doc had said that this may happen
i helped her with a lot of online research when she was first given them an it does seem that the clomid has a high % that it works but mood swing may be a bad side effect she was trying for 10 yrs with pcos an also had reg periods ect

ide call your doc now an ask about if you should be taking both

good luck hun let us know your progress as im sure alot of others are in your situation
  • Thanks for you kind words, side effects not to bad for me, hot flushes, few headaches on first couple of days...but quite bad for DH as ripped his head off on day 5 of taking them last week (lucky for him last day of taking them in first month)...
Have searched a lot of sites regarding this but so many conflicting stories and info but so many appreviations that i have no clue what they are talking about, have given up on them now as they are goggling my mind !!!!

Knew there are sensible straight talking people on here who would understand...
Just waiting to have blood tests on day 21 to see if ovulation has happened then wait and see what happens.....
Good job i have a diary for all these dates, so confusing...

    Will keep you posted....

if you're unsure then phone the hospital and check or speak to your GP or a pharmacist. My friend went through the same routine a few years ago but I can't remember if she took them both at the same time - the good news though was that after she'd lost weight clomid worked for her (and another friend too). The first time she'd taken clomid though a few years earlier without having lost weight there was no success - I don't know how overweight you are though so it may be different for you.

Good luck and try not to let it take over your life...

Infertility and Fertility Support - Index

The support on there is fantastic. I was in the same situation as you three years ago but became one of those annoying women who just as I was set to start on Clomid I fell pregnant. I also have pcos but don't plan on any more children so my interest now is that I'm helping my friend via egg donation. We have found so much support and information on the site I've linked to and I'd recommend the ladies there to anyone

    Hi

My story is almost identical to you.

I was very lucky to have my son after 18 months of trying, conceived naturally just as I was booked in for test.

Have been trying for 3 1/2 years for my second.

I have PCOS was diagnosed before my 1st was born.

The difference between us is I have a lot of the symptoms of it.

I have a really good consultant and fertility nurse.

I have had about 6 cycles of Clomid and only one has had a response. My dose has been upped to 150mg (I think this dose is quite high and unusual). I take Metformin and have taken it for the last 9 months even when taking Clomid, they told me only to stop if I got pregnant.

With regards to weight loss it is very hard. My consultant said you have one of the very few geninue reasons for struggling to lose weight.

I have lost half a stone but to be honest my weight can fluctuate 1/2 a stone from day to day so it is difficult to get a true measure if you see what I mean.

I really hope you are successful as it is such a stressful time. Good luck.

If you want anymore info or advice feel free to pm me
Give me the boy until he's seven and i'll give you the man.
  • Hi Pageee
I was diagnosed with pcos in Jan this year.
We had out DD is 2004 after a misscarriage and 3 years of trying
My periods never came back beyond tiny spotting since I had DD. The nurse at the hospital basically told us that assisted conception would be are only option.
This caused me to get very depressed and have 4 weeks off work. My realtionship with Hubby suffered and I turned into a sulking person
Im now approx 18 weeks pregnant, dont ask me how!
I guess what im saying is never give up. Drs think they know everything but sometimes mother nature knows better.
Make a list of questions youd like to ask DRs and ask them. Dont feel rushed. This is your body and they are there to help you. Dont let them rush you or leave the room till you fully understand everything
I cannot help with the tablets as we never got that far
    But please never give hope
2007 is my getting slim year
Total weight loss so far is 16llbs:T
    Total to go 15 pounds:eek:
Not no more as im having a baby:D

    <hugs>

Take it very slow and steady with the weightloss - you will find it difficult to lose weight, so don't expect miracles. It took me over a year to lose 3 stone to meet the IVF guidelines for BMI.

    Good luck.

Hi, we were TTC for 5 years and both hubby and I had had all the checks, I had a lap & dye and was found to have PCOS, hubby was told he was fertile.

I was FINALLY put on Metformin (after a lot of nagging on my part), we had a really good consultant who offered us a course of IVF but insisted that first my hubby needed to have further checks on his fertility.

These tests showed that he was subfertile, little did we know that whilst he was having these checks we had conceived naturally.

I had only been taking Metformin for 2 months!

We are now 27 weeks pregnant and I couldn't be happier.

I wish you all the luck in the world as I know what an awful roller coaster it is after you have been TTC for so long. I suffered awfully and it had a massive impact on my personality and outlook on life, I really did believe we would never have a baby.

The only other thing I changed apart from starting the Metformin was that I had a course of reflexology which is really supposed to help with fertility. I didn't really enjoy the reflexology (I believe some people find it really relaxing, I just found it to be a chore).

As soon as we have this baby and I have finished breast feeding, I will be straight back on the Metformin as I have an awful lot of faith in the drug.

Good luck and sending very positive baby vibes your way x

    First of all Big Hugs.
In my situation,I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was a teenager after I started my periods quite early then stoped all of a sudden for a number of years.
I actually had alot of the symptoms and was given Dianette to try to control it and was also told that when I wanted children I may have problems falling pregnant or I may fall straight away, they just didn't know for sure, luckily I fell with DD(7) within 6 weeks of coming off the pill and with DS(3) exactlly the same.
We have been trying for another child for nearly 2 years now and nothing has happened,at one point at the beginning of this year whenever my period started I was getting very emotional, but I have resigned myself to the fact that I have 2 healthy and gorgeous children.
Ps how much weight do they recomend that you lose as I am quite a bit overweight.

good luck I hope everything goes well for you and you get what you want.

Body Mass Index has to be under 35 for any clinic to carry out IVF - some clinics want an IVF of 30. Apparently a BMI of over 35 is linked to a higher chance of miscarriage.
