Fraud departments overall cost more to administer than they recover.
This is the civil service, and nothing is ever done cheaply.

If there were no one to check on the suspect fraudsters, I shudder to think what it would cost us.
You might not have noticed that the government gets most of its money off us.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -

One would have the choice of whether to continue with motorcycling or not, sadly the introduction of ID cards will likely be mandatory and across the board. Your point is invalid in terms of the argument.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -

If fraud could be stopped, then, of course, it would benefit us all - although most tax avoidance, practiced by the rich, is generally legal, under our system.
It just feels very Big brother at times in this country - cameras everywhere and access to our most personal information seemingly available to anyone that wants to buy it.
I've got no problem with government departments that need it holding information - what I do have a problem with is information being shared with companies that may not use it appropriately.
As for ID cards, they really would be a waste of time - they would be easily forged, and just become another "cash cow" for government - I certainly wouldn't carry one.
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -
Council asked me for bank statments when I got behind on council tax and applied for council tax benefit (was off work for 10 months when I had my son and struggled after the 6 months SMP finished)
As It happened I had the statements, but In the end my husband told the council to stick their benefits as they come round to the house to check how many bedrooms we had, how many people living there etc, wanted payslips, bank statments etc, and having to show this to a stranger is bad enough but most of them are just agency monkeys who don't give a damn about security and they managed to lose our information twice!! (last girl i spoke to admitted she was just temping from an agency like all the others!)
so somewhere there are 5 months of my statements, employment details etc floating about grrrr
we refused to give them anymore details and now don't claim anything
which is damn hard, but I'd rather go without holidays, a decent car etc than have anything to do with the council system.
Fair enough for the goverment HMRC to have access to bank accounts but should be only dealt with by certain people, not just anyone who feels like being nosey. Shame I get paid by BACS transfer or notes under the mattress would be a better option to a current account!0 -

As an ex civil servant and a continuing tax payer, I think I had noticed that lol:rolleyes:

As long as you have some genuine knowledge, why not help speed things up.

the people who moan about having to provide all this info are probably the same people who moan about 'benefits scroungers' and fraudsters.
I dont understand why everyone gets their knickers in such a twist over it?:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -
