feel like a fool posting this but. ..

My friend and I went to see a psychic a couple of weeks ago. We'd heard really good things about her from a couple of friends and decided to give it a shot. Cut a very long story short, she didn't know anything about me and almost everything she said was wrong. I felt I made this clear at the time and kept saying no. She asked me a lot of open questions to lead her too. I paid £25 for this 10-15 minute "reading". Should I ask for a refund or put it down to experience?!

Yours, feeling embarrassed! X

Put it down to experience - you were willing to be conned.

I'm not commenting on whether psychics are real because some believe and some don't. Don't be embarrassed, you tried it, found it worthless but probably missed the boat for a refund, you should of asked at the time. I have heard of people not being charged when the psychic has told them they are too difficult to read, but I think that's more the psychic trying to protect themselves from a bad review.

I once unexpectedly dropped in to see a friend who believed in psychics. She happened to have one visiting her & she talked me into having a 'reading' (against everything I believed in). The woman was brilliant - she didn't know me & told me a several things that were spot on. She asked for no payment from me. Over the next few years I visited a few, with friends, who were all hopelessly wrong & charged royally for the privilege. The worst one was a woman who could see your 'guardian angel' & described them. She described my old headmistress (a nun) who I loved when I was at infant school. I told my mum the next day who shot me down in flames when she said 'I don't think so - she's still alive & I saw her in the local grocers shop yesterday'!!!!
In my view, if anyone has a true gift like this they don't exploit it & ask for payment. Spend your money on better things in future is my advice!

This with bells on. :) ^^^ Particularly this line

I am not ruling out that maybe some people may have psychic abilities, but I do believe that people asking for money to 'read for you' are fake. JMHO.

    Agreed.
Where I used to work, the girls used to regularly visit psychics for a laugh.
I must have been to 6 or 7 with them, all of whom were hopelessly wrong with what they said about me.

Then, one day, I was shopping in Manchester city centre and was browsing close to a psychics booth, when he approached me and asked if he could talk to me. He gave me a reading (free) which was so pin point accurate that it left me shaken. Everything he said would happen, came true within the next 3 weeks.

2 years later, I tracked him down (he'd moved to another town) and had another reading. Again, everything he said happened within the next 3-6 weeks.

You need to treat this as a bit of fun and nothing more. I'm inclined to believe that forevery one out there who may...possibly have a 'gift', there are a few thousand charlatans. When I read about people such as Nella Jones, it does make me think twice.

Most 'good' psychics would offer a refund if their client was unhappy.

However, to go away for 2 weeks and then decide you want a refund, sorry that's just unreasonable! Best put down to experience.

I am sure this thread will provoke opinions on whether psychics are real or conmen/women etc!

Don't feel embarrassed, glad to see someone with an open mind on here :-)

This I would disagree with - not from the point of view of psychics, but the modern world. People with other gifts and callings - great musicians or priests - need to be paid, so why should psychics be different? If people are asking for readings why should they be able to take advantage of a true psychic (if such exist) or the psychic have to work in another job to support their readings if there is sufficient demand?

Musicians get this all the time - you are so lucky to have this gift, come and play for exposure/love/wine. If you want to take advantage of someone's skills don't expect to take advantage of them too.

Always treat a psychic as "entertainment". Would you be prepared to pay that much for some other thrill/experience? e.g. a 15 minute blast on a speedboat on holiday .... or a pair of shoes.

Beyond that, if they're right, or if you believe, or if you can take some comfort or hope from what they say is a bonus.

The thing is, people have to make a living.

Where does your money come from? Money doesn't turn up "free" for most people .... we all have to make a living selling our skills to the highest bidder.

Would you do it for free? Do artists produce oil paintings for free? Do bakers bake cakes for free?

I would feel embarrassed going to a so called psychic. Even more so paying 25 quid for the pleasure!

What did you honestly expect to happen?
