If the OP, is really concerned they could construct a faraday cage in their house to keep out the field and give the kids tin foil hats for when they play outside.

Suggest the child is well wrapped in cotton wool before the application of the tin foil hat - you can't be too careful these days...

When I was buying my newbuild, the sales agent pointed out the location - they said they have to tell people as some people who can hear abnormal frequencies say that they can hear the electricity.

This would be me. I never thought of it as 'hearing the electricity' I just assume that there is something which emits a high frequency sound which most people don't notice.

I also hear the 'mosquito' emitters which are supposed to be only audible to teenagers, and some of the things which are sold to discourage cats and other small animals from people's gardens.

for that reason, I personally would avoid a house next to a substation but were it not for that, I would not be put off. In fact, anything which means fewer direct neighbours would be good, from my perspective!

That might be taking it too far and, unfortunately, as cotton wool does not conduct, it would also be totally ineffective.

However, perhaps a simple copper wire, attached to a suitable body part, could be trailled along by the child, attaching them to earth at all times and maybe even obviating a need for the hat.

    Worth thinking about. ;)
