Hi guys,
Just after a bit of advice please.
My husband has a Barclaycard, we lived with his parents until recently.
His Dad died & when they sent my husbands replacement card out my mother in law called Barclaycard & cancelled it thinking it was her late husbands card...but it wasn't.
They have the same initial & surname but not the same first name.
Barclays have now cancelled my husbands credit card!
They've had no proof that either party has passed away, no death certificate has been sent to them & they've just closed the account & are refusing to reinstate it.
Do we have any options?
Thank you.

yes. it's an unfortunate situation, but it just needs to be worked through, With Barclaycard. they are not obliged to offer/continue/reinstate a credit limit, but hopefully they will do the latter in this case.0

Your husband should phone Barclaycard ... that should prove he's still alive & kicking.
They won't/shouldn't discuss his account with anyone else, even if you are his wife.
If that fails, he should follow their complaint's procedure.

I'm surprised they closed anyone's account who was declared as deceased without evidence (e.g. a death certificate). Have they closed your late father-in-law's account as well?
Of course, ultimately, it is up to Barclaycard if they wish to retain your husband as a customer, but he is entitled to a reason, even if it is simply that they have decided they no longer wish to retain him as a customer.
He should refer to his terms & conditions. Usually he should expect notice of such closure. (although there may be reasons they can close the account without notice)0
