new default on old account

Options
Hiya could any one please advise on my situation.

I have a very old account with British Gas that is in arrears however i have been attempting to contact them for thest 12 month trying to arrange a payment plan to clean up my credit score. No one can tell me who currently holds the account however my file is being updated monthly to show the missed payments that are obviously still occuring due to no one getting back to me. However i have just logged on and someone has now marked it as default :( This account is from 2009 i am so upset is there anything i can do to appeal this? i have been trying to pay i havnt missed payments because noone will tell me who i have to pay and now all my hard work to get a mortgage has gone down the toilet

Thank you for any help

Whose name is the entry and default in? Ultimately the company named on that is responsible.

Log a dispute with the credit reference agency website. Seperately complain via the company that has lodged the default. Good luck, Ive just had 2 defaults removed from my credit files as they were lodged incorrectly.

Thank you for replying. I am actually heartbroken with this. How do I find out who put the default on? I am a paying credit expert customer and cannot find any details of who is updating this file

    Thank you

I haven't looked at the format of the creditexpert report for a while, but all credit reports should show somewhere the name and contact details of the company reporting the default.

This is probably way out of date in format, but shows where it should be.

If it mirrors the £2 report, may also have on a separate webpage/option a list of all the addresses of companies on your report. The paper reports do at least.

If all else fails phone creditexpert. That's what you pay them for.

Please could u tell me how you did this? I have just gotten off the phone to British gas after an hour and half. They are disputing that I have been attempting to pay this account however admit that someone is up to something as I shouldn't have the reference number for it. They are telling me I cannot have it removed and the only way to sort it is to pay and it will show as settled. This is a seven year old account surely they can't default me after all this time when I've been trying to pay but they wouldn't accept the money because it has been passed to a debt agency?

    Thank you

Tell them that if they refuse to remove the defaults that are only there because of their errors, then you will be taking them to the energy ombudsman and claiming redress/compensation, and you will also be reporting them to the information Commisioner for breaches of the data protection act for reporting false and inaccurate information on your credit files.

every case is unique, but in my 2 it was because 1. Orange agreed to cancel my contract on broadband as the service never worked, but they still sent it to debt collection agency, so I complained. 2. Virgin media had me as default even though I moved and they couldnt supply at my new address. Both of these were years ago which means that they dont have full records of everything and they couldnt argue it.

I have literally just got off the phone to natwest who have a default and partial settlement on my file. I dispute that I was told my "full and final settlement" would leave a "partial settlement" on my account. As soon as I explained this he went into overdrive. The account will be marked as fully settled within 7 days, they are paying me £25 for phone call costs, and £30 for my experian reports. I couldnt think of any other costs involved lol. Promisd this would arrive within 7 days straight to my bank
