Hi
We have a raised patio being built , it is a continuation of a current patio , it just flows over an old rockery now , it has a retaining wall the width of the garden , and it has `sides` which protect the fences either side of our garden , we have had a letter from solicitors of one of our neighbours saying we should have a retaining wall ?! on the side ?

Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

What's the difference in height between your patio and the neighbour's garden?
What are the "sides" made off?0 -
Hi
Sides are made with slabs , which almost all are against the gravel boards on the boundary , the side of the patio of `affected` neighbours is about 5 inches higher than their fence panelNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -
What would happen if the fence was removed - would the slabs fall away into the neighbour's garden?0
-
No , because the slabs are up against the concrete gravel boards with most of the slab length is `below` ground levelNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0

In that case, the slabs are retaining the patio.
I'd reply to their solicitors saying that you are confident that the patio is fully retained and doesn't need any further work.0 -
Hi
Thanks for your post , i agree , our neighbours are really bad and are upsetting my wife badly , which is really stressing me out as i am at work all day every day , never mind , this is life i guessNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -

As you can see , the slabs are lengthways down , and are clearly butted up to the gravel boards , the neighbours are claiming that we have damaged their fence (long story!) by our work , but we had the foresight to take pictures of this exact panel in January , feb , March and April , and again just before work , so the bowed panel you see is the same panel , in the same condition it was thenNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -
To be fair I wouldn't have gone that close to the fence/gravel boards... if 3" would save all that aggro it would have been worth it.
Just my opinion tho

Maybe not , but if i hadnt i would have needed another wall building , and as i was under the impression i was allowed to do it , as it is...
