Really dull question - individual or family laundry baskets??

I apologise in advance.
This may well be the dullest thread EVER on OS.
At the moment, our "laundry basket" is the corner of our bedroom. It's awful.
Also, we now have a DS who's nearly 9 months in his own bedroom.
I'm wondering if it's better to get two laundry baskets (one for each room) or one big one to go into the hallway (perhaps with separate sections for lights and darks)? Obv the hallway one could be "hidden" in a bedroom if guests were in.
What are your thoughts?..... apart from "OMG what a dull question"
Thanks in advance

Lol, I know just where you're coming from. We went down the one in each room route but then I kept forgeting to empty the ones in the children's room. Then we got the one that's in compartments but they actually hold quite a lot and I kept leaving it till it was full. Now we just have a smallish one in the bathroom and when it's full I wash. I guess it's trial and error really and if you don't hate washing as much as me the bigger one might work. Have fun!January budget

It's not as dull as the question I've put up this morning!!!
We've always had just one laundry basket so that I don't miss out on items when I put the washer on. I'm lucky to have room to keep it by the washing machine so I can sort stuff out on the floor and throw in the right clothes without any effort.
When I used to have separate baskets I would put on a load of whites then realise I'd forgotten DS's one white PE shirt or something and it'd be days before I had enough to make another load.

Sounds like a fine question to me, its all to do with an organised house
These only two of us here and I use a small bin, its actually a paper bin but its a nice brown suede in our bedroom and put daily things in there. Then I empty it and take into the spare room where we have one whicker one.
I sort my washing into Whites and Bedding and Ordinary Clothes, so maybe a compartment one would be good0 -
We have a double sided laundry basket in our bedroom which is close to the main bathroom. One side for lights and one side for darks. Have trained by husband and five children to put their washing in the correct side and I do a load or two everyday.
Its quite an attractive baskety thing so its not a problem in our room. No old laundry smells cos its done pretty often with a big family plus its got a lid on each side. Like a flap so really easy for the kids. No excuses for missing washing things. Kids know if its not in the basket its not washed so its their problem if their favourite top etc is not clean for them! Call me harsh if you like. I call it good family management. Can you tell Im quite bossy!!!0 -
What I have - basket in the boys room and in mine (mainly to get the boys and DP to use it and not dump on the floor!) both small plus a 3 section one which I keep usually in the spare room but sometimes downstairs which I then sort things from the little baskets into in order of colours, I have one for lights, one darks and one for red/pinks as their uniform is red mainly but did have seperate delicates one before they started school. Now I put delicates into a net bag I keep in the basket. There is a flap over the top, has chrome legs and can remove the cream basket part to wash it. Best thing I ever bought as pre sorted laundry makes washing time soooo much easier, when one sections full then that's a load. I think I got mine in Argos but IIRC they only do a double basket one now. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LINEN-AND-CHROME-LAUNDRY-BASKET-3-SECTIONS_W0QQitemZ230148171602QQihZ013QQcategoryZ43517QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem this ones the same as mine. Seen these pop up style when I searched for 3 laundry basket http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-Divided-POP-UP-Laundry-BASKET-WASHING-Hamper_W0QQitemZ190130238944QQihZ009QQcategoryZ43517QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

We have got four baskets, large in the bathroom, one in our bedroom and two smaller ones in the kids rooms.
DD uses hers, need to train DS yet! (he is only 4, but WILL learn lol)
I do occasionally forget to check them all. The main one is in the bath room so no excuses! I just need to make sure that the one in our room does not become a hotspot :eek:Official Mascot and Chief Cheerleader for the 'Mortgage Free in Three' Gang0 -
We've just got one, kept in the bathroom and I normally do washing every day so it doesn't get overfull.0

we have two 1 in main bathroom and 1 in middle of landing
and two huge ones that are called the kids bedrooms:rotfl:
they now know i will not go looking for dirty washing so if its not put out properly it will not get washed but don't stop them just leaving it where ever they take it off think i'm gonna start getting strictLead us not into temptation...
just tell us where it is and we'll find it....0 -
Thanks to everyone who replied - that's certainly given me food for thought.
I realise that I didn't give the full picture. Our bathroom is tiny so there's no chance that it can go in there. No space at all otherwise that would have been a natural choice.
Also, I've got no utility room so my WM is in my kitchen. Frequently piles of washing sit there until they go in the WM which is just yucky. Hence why I want to try and get into some better habits upstairs.
My house now sounds v small and rubbish. It's not. Honest. It's just not modern enough to have a bathroom proportional to bedroom number nor have a utility room.
Anyway I digress.
Thanks again everyone.
