TalkTalk driving me nuts

TalkTalk get worse by the day. I'm on an old plan that includes calls to 30 odd euro countries, but have a friend in Eire who is also a TalkTalk customer.

An offer came to me via email from Which? It's Unlimited Broadband & Line rental on a 12 month deal for £11.75 a month with TalkTalk. No calls are included, except those to other TalkTalk customers.

I had a specific question that I emailed to them and of course they want to talk to me rather than write back which with TalkTalk I prefer them to write it down. Anyhow, the question is will I still continue to able to make free calls to my friend in Eire who is also a Talk Talk customer? For a start the person who called me back didn't seem to note that particular question and when I brought it to her attention she went off somewhere for 10 minutes, came back and appeared not to understand that there is a country called Eire, or The Republic of Ireland, or even Southern Ireland. Eventually after I'd given her all of these options the dope asked me if it was Northern Ireland! Then she said it depended on what tariff the customer in Eire was on and ended by saying that these calls would no longer be free. I told her that I did not feel confident with her answer and to go away, find out consclusively, and email me with the answer. My calls to Eire are currently free because either a, it's because of the plan I'm on or b, it's because calls to other TT customers are free. I'm unsure if calls to other TT customers across borders are inclusive as free calls so I want to be certain before I change plan as the benefits of doing so could soon be lost if my calls there were no longer free.

They're pretty poor at TalkTalk really. I'm never impressed with their customer services.

I have received written confirmation from TT that calls from TT customers in England to TT customers in Eire are not free, as advertised on their website.

I have written back to them to tell them that if this is the case then their website needs altering. I've told them that this is misleading advertising of a product and that I plan to inform the Advertising Standards Authority about it. However, before I do that I have offered them a further opportunity to clarify that either these types of calls are in fact free between TT customers in different domains, or, to assure me that their advertising will be amended to reflect the the fact that calls between TT customers across domains are not free.

Did they say "England"? Just England then not Wales, NI and Scotland?

I'd never assume Eire's TT customer come under any UK offer any more that a TT customer if they buy a French company. Sky in Eire has nothing much to do with Sky in the UK. Or Cadbury, Tesco etc.

Your contract is with an English registered company after all. The fair assumption is TT customers in that territory (or the UK).

They don't say anything other than calls to other TT customers are free. Therefore one assumes just that. I don't know what tariff my friend in Eire is on but her calls made to me are free.

I think that the truth is that the calls are in fact free, but I want them to write to me that effect before I change tariff.

Yes I see. Need to establish whether there is still a link with TT.
  • Talk Talk is also driving me mad. They never listen to what you say and never have replied to any of my emails. My contract on phone and broad band finishes in September, I have told them that I am off to another supplier as soon as possible. They never replied to that. Does it cost to come out of that contract early? Does anyone know please,

Yes they'll levy a charge to terminate early. Unless there is some ongoing problem with the service that they haven't managed to fix. If that's the case you may be able to terminate early but it would depend on what was the problem.
