Year old bill
Options
Me and my fiance moved into a new place just under a year ago, now I left him to sort out the bills. However it came to light that he never bothered with the energy bills so for the past year we aint been paying them
We haven't even been registered with a energy provider and I have no idea how we still have power since surly by now we'd have been cut off.
I honestly dont know what to do, how to explain to NPower (the company who was providing the electricity to the previous tenant).
Anyone got any advice?

Rental property or owned?
Do you have evidence of the original meter reading when you moved in?
Just ring them up. No need to go into details just ask where the bill is.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Do you have a copy of your inventory? The meter readings were included on the inventory for the last 2 places I've rented- hopefully yours are too.Loving knitting for the Wooligans! :j my totals:

I just got two bills when the postman turned up 10 mins ago.
Both addressed to the previous tenant, now I know it's naughty to open mail not addressed to yourself however these are bills.
Anyway one was a sorry letter from Npower for not sending a bill in over 18 months, so no wonder I never noticed beforehand. Back to January last year, 7 months before we moved in.
The other was a bill for the entire 18 months of £1k.
I need to go looking for my contract and if I got an inventory from my LL.
1k is a lot, that's 2 months of my benefits0 -
Have you had any letters from Npower? I would have expected them to send a bill to your home addressed to the previous tenant (if they didn't tell them that they were moving) or the occupier.
But just give them a ring and ask for the bill. Don't worry you won't have to pay it all at once but you can ask for a payment plan- they have to let you pay over the same amount of time that the bill has built up over, so you will have a year to pay it. Here is some info from the CAB

Think about switching to a cheaper tariff as well, as you are likely to be on their standard (most expensive) one.Loving knitting for the Wooligans! :j my totals:

Don't panic, they should help you set up a payment plan to pay it back.
What benefits are you on? See if you qualify for the Warm Home Discount
http://www.npower.com/spreading_warmth/home/warm-home-discount/
That gives you £140 credit to your electricity account, but I don't know if they can apply it to past bills, but no harm in asking! and it may help you in for next winter.Loving knitting for the Wooligans! :j my totals:
