Help with new phone set up please!!!

I have just had a new phone delivered, i have put the new sim card in and it is on charge. I managed that by myself!!

My current provider is 3, new provider is Talk Talk. I have the pac code ready, but I need all the contacts etc transferring from old phone to new one. Do i do this before I phone up with the pac code? I have tried to see if all contacts are on sim or phone but its an old HTC desire and struggling with copying over.

Would appreciate any help please.

Contacts on the SIM should have a little SIM card displayed against them. The contacts will remain on the SIM or phone regardless of when the PAC is used. You can always back them up to an SD card if the phone has a slot for one.

The contacts should be synced with your Google account. If the new phone is Android the contacts will appear as if by magic
  • Thanks. I dont think there is a google account set up to this phone, most things have been deleted as there is so little memory on it. If I set up a google account now would it still work?
  • The phone is so old, it still says 'people' not 'contacts', and I cannot see where to save to a sd card either. If I put existing sim into new phone, then saved to phone itself, would that work?

Do you use Gmail? Try logging in on a computer and see if your contacts are listed. If so, you can sync them to the new phone. You can copy numbers to the sim but it won't save addresses, email, photos etc that may have been associated with each contact

I have logged into the gmail page on computer but cannot see any phone contacts. I have gone into the gmail page on the old phone, but when I try to select syn contacts, nothing happens.

Top left of the screen on the computer, where it says Gmail, there should be a drop down menu with contacts in it

Thanks. This only shows three contacts which were saved to phone and not sim, so I have put sim card into new phone, and trying to sync again now. Seems to be taking forever (coming up for an hour).

HTC have a transfer app that works well. Not sure of your old/new combinations but I trabnsfered from Galaxy Ace to HTC One withour any difficulty. It also transferred all SMS, Photos and Music.
    See the Play Store.
