Gumtree for used motorhomes campervans

I am highly suspicious of a number of ads on Gumtree for used campervans/motorhomes yes surely they can't all be dodgy.

If an HPI comes back ok and an AA/RAC check doesn't show any problems am I covered.

Examples are: 2009 FIAT SWIFT 7000 miles for £5700
or 2008 peugeot boxer £4808.

Apart from stating if it seems to be too good to be true, have you any guidance?

No, that is the best guidance.


If the person writing the advert doesn't even know the model of the damn motorhome (what is a Fiat Swift? Kon-Tiki? Royale? Bolero? Sundance?) when it's written on the bloody side, do you seriously think there's any better advice than 'If it looks like a scam, smells like a scam and walks like a scam, it's a scam'?

Obviously phoney, unless they accidentally left a '1' off. Even then, £15 grand for a 5 year old (Sundance?) would be cheap.

Why bother making it hard for themselves, better to get a dozen greedy mugs than start negotiating with one.
Of course they're HPI clear, they've only used their details, they don't have the van!

The problem is the HPI check you do possibly wont be the vehicle you have in your possession. So you will have zero comeback.

No money and no vehicle. A motorhome costs £25k your NOT going to buy one for £5k unless its been through a crusher 1st.
