Serious problem with spiders

Hi
I have a serious problem with spiders, they are just everywhere in and out of the house, I cant leave any window open for too long fearing that one will just come in, even in the front porch I have grilled gates and they are full of spider webs.
They have just been there since we bought the house, all I did since then is clean up as much as I can around the house and inside too but in a few hours after the clean I see a new web.
Is there any solution for this please.
Thanks in advance.

Fancy a cat?
Ours eats any spider he can find and catch.
Though the sound of crunching up spider bodies is almost as bad as the spiders themselves!0 -
I absolutely despise spiders!
Whenever I see a spider (no matter how small) I always get rid. My favourite method is vacuum. Leave it on for a good 20-30 seconds after sucking it up to make sure its properly dead.
Whenever you see cobwebs, hoover them up straight away and try to find the spider! The web didnt make itself.
Check ventilation grids in walls. You can take off the covers and see if there's cobwebs in there. Mine were FILLED with cobwebs and dead spiders and bugs. Just hoover the lot up and put the cover back on.
Common places for spiders.
Utility cupboards, under-stair cupboards
Behind Radiators
Loft
Ceiling Light fittings
Conservatory/rear extension/garage
You said you're scared to open windows incase they come in, do you have trees and plants (climbing plants) pushing against your house?0 -

I second the advice to get a cat...

Apologies if you have to sit through a tedious football related ad before you get to the video.0 -
Oh dear - been there & done all that. Worked out why - me elder brother threw a rubber one at me when I was 2 ish. My worst time was when I got a new duvet in the 70's - got in bed & a huge one crawled up from near the bottom of the bed. Screamed the house down - but no one could find it. So I decided to get the vacuum cleaner & clean under my bed. Yes in middle of night! It was in the handle of my old potty. Good job I had not needed it as it was obviously where it lived. Funnily enough if they do not come near me at a fast run & I can catch them with a stiff broom, then a stomp does the trick. Hairspray works to slow them down too. Mum was the catcher with a cloth person, then she dropped it down the loo. But I had to see it in the pan & flush it. http://www.wikihow.com/Get-Rid-of-Spiders-in-the-House might be some help.0

Hi
Thanks everyone for the replies, I never leave the web anywhere, as soon as I see it I clean it, and kill the spiders too, I dont know how many spiders I have killed in and outside the house, there are not too many tress close to the house except few hedges but I know the shed in my garden has loads of them which does not matter a lot to me as my garden is quite big so they are far away from the house but still I dont know how they find the way to come in and make so many webs both in and out of the house. Any spray would help? I have a little one at home so dont want to do something major if it comes to sprays and all.0 -
Perhaps a psychologist would be able to help you with irrational fears such as this? It would be particularly good if you could get some control over these issues before your child has chance to learn from your behaviour and continue the cycle.0

Why all this spider-hatred? UK spiders do no harm to humans whatsoever, are incredibly hygienic, keep the fly population down and are, in fact, incredibly beautiful little creatures. I cannot remember the last time I killed a spider - in fact, aside from "putting down" ones I have accidently injured, I am pretty certain I have never deliberately killed one - even as a brat.
It does sound more like an irrational phobia to me and it'd probably be better for you - and certainly for the local ecology - if you looked into the possibility.
Seriously, WHY???0 -

Red raid spray, kills them on sight and keeps working for up to four weeks on treated areas. We had massive problems after garden was landscaped, half a dozen in every room every day.
Up till then I always thought it was ant and cockroach killer, but read into it a little and you'll see it's also spider poison.
