I think Funeral Bonds are a great idea.

The cook's dad was in a rest home a few years ago, and we were working in Saudi Arabia.

He was a widower and had no other family in UK. So, we wanted to make sure that if he passed away that everything would be sorted out without us having to worry too much about the immediate consequences of his demise.

So we made him purchase a Funeral Bond, and any worry for us immediately evaporated.

I resigned from my job at the end of my tour in Saudi Arabia, and we were going to live Cyprus, where we had a house and settle down there. But we also had a 5 week holiday booked in Oz and NZ as soon as we left Saudi.

The old feller made the timely decision to pass away the day we were due to leave Saudi and fly to Sydney. Selfish as it might sound there was no way we were going to give that up in order to return to UK for a funeral.

We'd left all the details of the Funeral Bond with the Rest Home, and with our daughter who lived in the same area. So everything was taken care of.

So I made a made a conscious decision to put whatever I got as a Lump Sum from the FCO into a Funeral Bond. Do you know any Funeral Directors that do a BOGOF?;)

Lump Sum and pension arrears landed in our bank account on Friday.
6 days short of 8 months after I applied to MyCSP, and 6 months after I became eligible.

Did they give interest on the LS?

When will you file your official complaint?

I'm waiting for a letter from Capita, who pay the benefits, with a breakdown of the arrears. I can't see there being any interest.

Who do I complain to? Capita aren't at fault, and MyCSP will blame my former employer (Foreign Office). Any interest on the arrears won't amount to much.

What I would like to see though, is a proper customer feedback system that should be offered to everyone using Capita, MyCSP, and other of these publicly funded agencies.

You wont get that w/o an official complaint I am sure. If you complain the HAVE to respond.

I'd complain to Capita initially, and they can pass the complaint on if it isn't their fault/.

What you want is a stalemate letter, so you can advance it to the ombudsman. Who will then flesh out who is to blame, and what compensation you will get. And also what procedures need tightening up and by whom.
