Birmingham to Phoenix sky harbour BHX, cheapest for dates £555

    Good luck with anything less
  • I had that one thanks. I was wondering if there was a cheaper way to fly into a different/cheaper airports and get an internal flight which are pennies in comparrison.

Does anyone know the cheapest flight schedule. European airport to US ?

If I were you I'd start rowing/walking now if that's your budget.

Cheapest flight to anywhere in USA around those dates is £325 from MAN - JFK via ZRH with Swiss - you've still then another 2500 miles to go from there

You can probably save some taxes by flying from Brussels/Paris/Amsterdam but you'll offset that cost by getting there

There are a few options of Dublin - LAX at just over £400 - at least that gets you a bit closer than JFK
  • I know it a bit ambitious with the budget but time is on my side. Do you think they would be cheaper nearer the time ?

No-one can know that: but it would be indeed remarkable if the fares fell to be low enough to match your budget. I suggest that you start looking at alternative destinations.

You will not achieve £350 no matter how hard you try. If Norwegian is still flying transatlantic from Gatwick next year, and there are serious attempts in Congress at the moment to stop them from starting next month, you might get a fare of just around £400 to Los Angeles, they have a flight out on January 28 and return 4 Feb, meals and luggage add £35 to the cost. From LAX look at Southwest for a cheap flight to Phoenix. Fares that far ahead are not on sale yet but are around $69 each way off peak
  • Great shout on Norwegian Air Alan, best wash a few more pots as it is looking like nearer 400. Probs pick up hire car in LAX as thats only gonna be 200 split between us inc petrol.

Are Norwegian a good reliable airiline, necver heard of them before ?

Norwegian is Europe's third largest low cost carrier, those that have flown them short haul say they are far, far better than the usual service. The long haul flights which have been operating out of Norway and Sweden for the past year are on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The planes are brand new but like other carriers using them there have certainly been teething problems but hopefully after 6 months experience at Gatwick the service should have settled down.

Not sure where in Arizona you are going but it a fair drive even to the border from LAX, not forgetting you have to do it in reverse, might be worth looking for an internal flight.

The days of sub £400 flights have gone, last time I got one was about 6 years ago with KLM via Amsterdam

I would say they are a good airline but their longhaul operations so far haven't been particularly reliable. They operate with relatively low frequencies/airplanes and don't have alliance partners so if there's a technical issue (and there have been many) passengers may be stranded for a while.
