This doesn't sound like an Openreach issue i.e. you don't have a physical phone line. It seems to be an archaic BT database issue thinking you don't have an active service with them. Therefore moving ISP should not be a problem.

Just ask BT for a MAC code and move ISPs if they keep messing you around. Sorry that will be the next problem getting a MAC code thinking about it! :rotfl:

You made a bad choice moving to EE. If you read reviews online everyone says the customer service is poor along with throttled networks as you have experienced first hand. ISPs such as Plusnet, Sky, Zen, etc are better rated albeit not perfect.

Although it seems the BT forum rep has found you, maybe he will help.

    Good luck (again).. :)

Nail on the head with both bits !

Please post your feedback publicly here on how efficiently BT resolves this as it will help me to decide whether my elderly mother stays with them.

    Oh i will !

So far the customer service has been absolutely disgusting.

In fact when i spoke to a guy called Mahesh earlier i genuinely did not want to hang up the phone for another call back as so far 3x occasions they have not bothered.
He refused to let me speak to anyone senior, could not answer why it would take until tomorrow to find out why the line was cancelled, and refused to give me any direct contact details.

He did agree to give me the department number, but after hanging up tried it...... guess what ? number not recognized
