The Avon Skin-so-Soft products available to buy in the UK are not marketed as having any mosquito repellent properties at all.

    From a Travel advice website:

Yeap I know. However I knew I was buying the Off! Spray as soon as i got there which did in fact work like a charm.
I usually use deet sprays which never seem to have any effect on me, though that was the first time I'm travelled to Egypt.
It was only a temporary measure until I got to the hotel supermarket to purchase.

a very good remedy for Mossy bites, once bitten

is to rub the inside of a banana skin over the effected area (bite mark)
this will stop the itching and is very soothing
trust me this works, I was told about this method a number of years ago by our local chemist, since then I've used it every year

I too have heard the best thing if you are bitten (similar to the teaspoon trick) is to get a flannel and put it into very hot water. Wring out and apply it bite as hot as you can bear without scolding. As has been said this breaks down the mosquito enzyme that causes the itch.
