Help with items received...

Hi all,

I recently bought some nursery items described as very good condition in the title. The description mentioned nothing other than the wording from the shop on their listing.

From the same seller I bought an additional item outside of eBay and she added a price onto my invoice.

They've arrived today and I'm not entirely happy but I'm not sure if I'm being picky because it's for my nursery.

I bought a lampshade which has a very slight mark on it, I bought wooden tie backs which have marks on and seperately I bought a mobile which has Sellotape down it from where they've had it attached to something and the mirror that's attached is all scratched.

I know that these were second hand but I feel if I was listing them I would have put the defects on the listing and I wouldn't have paid so much.

I paid £13 for the lampshade which is £30 new
I paid £19 for the tie backs which are £25 new
I paid £20 for the mobile which is £30 when new

Can I have your thoughts on what I should do? Am I being overly picky?

    Am I being overly picky?

    Yes.

Its eBay, not an online shop selling brand new goods.

I understand what you are saying but he listing never mentioned any of the defects.

If I was selling them as very good condition I would make sure the buyer knew they had problems.

I've bit the bullet and emailed the seller along with pictures showing the problem.

Let me just state now I've been a member on eBay for a long time a seller and a buyer and this is the first time I've not been happy with something.

I don't think you are being over picky. When I sell something, I describe every little mark. It's not as though you only paid a few pounds for them.
You're only young once, but you can be immature forever :D

    Thank you for your reply.

I never complain and I am usually so shy and I know it's for my nursery so I do want things to be "perfect" but I wouldn't have bought them had I of known about the marks on them and the condition.

Also, I deffo wouldn't have paid as much for them.

I hope the seller doesn't think I'm being funny, I've took photos so I can prove it but I think I just want to return them, hopefully they will agree.

I should add the lampshade mark is a red pen like mark on a lime green surface so totally noticeable and won't come off and I thought it was marks on the wooden tie backs but I was wrong they actually have chips out of them.

Ignore the other poster. If you are buying used items then any defects need to be listed. You can not just not mention things. Some people seem to think that because it is Ebay you should just accept rubbish.

I would decide what you want to do. Either return for a refund or a partial refund if you are happy to keep the items. Then contact the buyer and just explain there are defects which you weren't expecting as they were not listed in the description. If they refuse to solve the problem then you will have to open a case and probably return. You are unlikely to get the money you spend returning the items (but if you use a cheap courier it will reduce your loss) but at least you will get your money back. Do not forget to leave feedback based on your experience and how they respond to your issues.

I do not think you are being picky. If you had paid 99p then maybe it would just about be acceptable. But really it is up to the seller to list any defects or problems and then leave the buyer to decide how much to bid based on that. Withholding information is just as dishonest as lying.

Thank you for your reply too.

I do appreciate your help and I will update you once I have a response from the seller.

I should add in case anyone thinks I am (I'm not!) I haven't complained to the seller so she will give me the items cheaper, I'm not like that.

Other than the lampshade you paid over 50% which is a lot for 2nd hand items, definitely complain if the condition is not as advertised!
For that price I would expect immaculate items!

    Hi all,

Just a quick update. Seller replied apologised and said I could return.

Out of the three items I've said I will return two and keep the lampshade. I said I would be happy for a refund of the two items plus a partial refund of the original postage since I am keeping an item but asked if she would pay my return postage.

She replied advising she's a good seller and has good feedback and doesn't accept returns but doesn't want me unhappy but all she will will refund is the original price on the items I paid, no postage eitherway.

Bit annoyed to be out of pocket but I guess it's a lesson I'll use for the future when buying.

I should add I'm keeping the lampshade as my mum is convinced she can remove the red mark and is actually giving me the money for it and will use it at her house.

Personally, I think that she should refund your original postage. I guess that the bulky lampshade made the parcel larger so that would have increased her postage costs (which you paid) and as you're keeping the lampshade, she feels that you've had your money's worth.

If I were you, I would open a SNAD case and return all of the items, after which, you would receive a refund including your original postage. Of course, it will cost you more to send the whole lot back and you'll still be out of pocket.

Make sure that you hit her stars. She may have "good feedback" but she really shouldn't treat her buyers like this!
