Hiya Steve. I work for 02 in the shop. Basically, if you always ring non geographical numbers, stick with the tarrif you have, DO NOT CHANGE.
If you renew your contract in the shop and say you do not want to change, you will remain on your current t&c's, and we process it just by upgrading your phone. We do not change your calling plan. If you were to change to one of our new calling plans or accept a "save deal" from retentions, you would lose access to the non geographical numbers from your free mins, you would be charged between 20p and 35p per min dependant on the number you are calling. What you do need to consider is how much more a new plan would give you, as in most cases you would be on far less mins/texts on your older plan, and figure out whether you ring 0870 numbers often enough to justify not changing to a better deal. But do not be lured away by other deals on other networks, no UK operators offer access to non geographic numbers free from their mins now, so any new contract you took out with say 3 for example, you would be no better off in that department. Hope this helps.

    Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

I got unlimited mins for off peak, xnet which is great because I can call 0844,0845 etc. I make about £300+ worth of these non-geographical calls. I pay a ONE figure sum per month for this, by far the best deal in the world for off-peak.

I called O2 today just to confirm that 0844/0845/0870 etc is still 'free' and they said for anyone joining before 1st May 07 it is, anyone after its chargeable and anyone renewing or chaning their contract after this date will also lose the benifit of free calls to these numbers, this was covered above with the dates.

I though Orange had something going? If im correct and by reading the above post, ONLY o2 offer this?

So am better sticking to the same contract/calling plan and changing my phone only???
  • They wanted to charge me £35 a month for my existing contract, which I've been paying £20 for. So I had no choice but to change, even if it meant losing 0845 numbers, cos I definitely don't make £15 of those calls a month. And I can't afford £35 a month anyway.

Spinningsheep - what's going on with o2 retention this year? I have a contract with o2 online and they always give me great deals to stay with o2, but they didn't care this year. They offered me no discount at all, and no new phone. They just said go to 3, but you'll have rubbish reception whereas o2 is great. And clearly expected me to pay an extra £15 a month for that.
