Microsoft works to word

Can someone please help!

I have Microsoft Works (home edition) on my computer and I need to send my CV to an agency but they can't open it as it is not in "Word"

I can't afford to buy the Microsoft package so how do I send it so it can be opened?

Can you open it in Open Office/Libre Office?
If so, they can both save in MS Word format (as far as I know).

I can't remember which one is still under development which is why I've listed both.

Can you 'save as' a rich text file (.rtf). They should be able to open that.

Rather than 'Save', you should be able to 'Save as...' a Word document (either .doc or .docx).

Save it as PDF as .doc/.docx or MS Works or RTF are not presentation formats.

You should send anything that you want to present to someone as a finished document in .pdf as it looks the same on anything and can be opened for free on the majority of modern computing platforms.

.doc is only suitable for a work in progress document providing that all involved parties have agreed upon it as a working format.

There are PDF printing applications available for Windows which will allow you to save pretty much anything into PDF, so long as the application that it comes from has a print function, it's like a virtual printer. I think CutePDF does this?

    Thank you everyone.

Have managed to overcome the problem but have found out a few more things by reading your answers.

Bad advice! Don't send a PDF!!

If it's going to an agency they need it in an editable format!
They copy and paste the data from the CV into their client database to match you with jobs and clients.

Most if not all agencies reject it automatically if it's not in a txt/rtf/doc/docx format.

Keep PDF version of your CV for sending direct to an Employer. (thought even then some of them tend to reject them and want a doc version.) >_<

MS Works is obsolete. Time to move up to Libre Office or Kingsoft Office, both Word-compatible.

You can copy and paste from an .pdf. I wouldn't be happy sending anything that could be altered after it left me.
