MBNA Reviewing old claims?

Hi Everyone!

Got a letter out of the blue this week from MBNA saying they are reviewing the credit card PPI claim that I submitted in 2011. They rejected it at that time and i wasn't savvy enough then to forward it onto the ombudsman as I did with Barclaycard. Had to phone them up and give them more details to pass onto the case officer.

They said they have to review some older cases with newer guidelines - has anyone else received one of these letters, and is there a chance they might finally admit they were wrong?

Yes. Reviews are typically completed when a complaints handler has been found to have made errors on multiple cases creating a trend or where they was a systematic failure which could have lead to wrong outcomes.

Update - after calling them as requested last week, got a letter last night to say they're now overturning it and paying out £11k.

    :j

And here my run of PPI luck ends, no more cards. £40k back all in from 3 different banks. Thanks for all your help moneysavingexperts!!
  • Hi Guys

I too have received a letter yesterday stating that MBNA are reviewing my husbands claim for PPI which was rejected in 2012 , He called them yesterday regarding the letter and they asked one question only which was " was he a contract worker at the time of taking out the PPI? " , ( he couldn't even remember taking out the PPI in the first place as it was in 2006 , which was the basis of our original claim , as the card was taken out online ) , he replied yes .
They just replied ok we will review this and get back to you.
    That was it !
Do you think he may have a chance of receiving anything back ?

Same here two revues of complaints and two cheques additional to earlier upheld and in 2011.
Not sure what happened but they apologised :)

Just been reading the letter regarding the error MBNA made to my 2012 refund.

They reviewed the calculation and found it wrong but did not clearly state where ?

This was for two complaints that I originally complained in 2010 and 2011 after some delay were dealt with no FOS involved.

Just posting this as I have been asked by PM.

  • Hi Maggy50
Hopefully he will receive something back then .
Not holding out much hope though!
How soon after the review did you receive anything?
    Thanks in advance

Banks never reveal why they uphold any PPI complaints, so they wouldn't tell you why their original calculation was wrong.

Many PPI complaints are upheld for entirely different reasons than those provided by the complainant.

From the letter issued telling me of the underpayment/error it was no more than 10 days for the cheque to be issued .

Hi all, my hubby received a similar letter from MBNA yesterday regarding a Virgin CC (lifestyle Protect) product that we had from 2009-2011. The original claim was not upheld. We rang and they only asked a couple of questions, what was his then salary and how much would his redundancy package have been. She could not give a timescale on any reply but that it was being looked at again and that we would be contacted at a later date. Fingers crossed, we paid over £650 in, every little helps!
