Hyundai I30 nearly new - any good?

Well, quite a few opinions here - which we're all entitled to - but my post was not misleading buglawton - I've driven a number of I-30s and bits have literally fallen off. I wouldn't have said it if they hadn't.
The usual suspects are the button on the end of the handbrake falling off and the gear stick cover. I've had a few of these cars where the driver's door won't open when you try to get out too - very frustrating, especially when the electric windows also decide to pack up!
Each to their own, but I believe these cars are best avoided.0 -

The 1.6HDi is notorious for faults; the fact that you didn't personally have any trouble is irrelevant.0 -
Clayton you seem to have run into a bad batch or maybe you drove abused hire or pool cars? I can attest that all the hire cars I've had were somehow tatty, even when only a year or 2 old.
I followed the Hyundai owners forums over the years so I know what the most common real complaints are.
There was an official recall about the non opening drivers door that was dealt with at one of my routine services. Wonder why the car you had was not fixed.
All in all emphasises that 5 or 7 (Kia) year warranties are worth having. Wonder why Ford or VW don't offer them?
Funnily enough a neighbour has a diesel Hyundai and did indeed have a run of faults. I'd already decided that diesel is bad technology in compact cars so went for petrol.0 -

The old shape is just about ok to drive and feels reasonably punchy but the new shape is awful to drive and is VERY slow to get going.
I also found that neither shape model is what I would call robust; bits fall off easily and they seem to have a lot of mechanical breakdowns.
I'd buy a Focus instead tbh.
Is that from experience of owning one or just using pool or hire cars.
We have had an i30 for 3 years it was 2 years old when we got it. My wife loves it, I barely drive it but it is ok, just a bit uninspiring. Apart from 2 minor issues that have been fixed under warranty it hasnt had any bits fall off and no mechanical breakdowns
its a 1.4 petrol.
havent had the drivers door issue but it is waiting to go in under the hyundai recall to have the mod fitted0 -

As above, its an engine known for expensive problems - usually from mid life onwards.0
