AVG free or Avast free?

At present I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 which expires soon. I was going to renew and take out Kaspersky Internet Security 2014.
However when looking at their upgrade page which appears when I press "licensing" on my account page, details of the above product and "Pure" are shown side by side. Looking at the page indicates that Freewall and other features which I presently have are not available on the Internet Security 2014 product. I have contacted them via my Kaspersky account for clarification, but they are not replying to me, which I find rude and annoying.
As a result I'm very tempted to get rid of Kaspersky on expiry, and download free AV protection. At present I'm thinking either AVG free or Avast free.
I have Spybot and Malwarebytes and have read somewhere that AVG free works better with them installed on your computer.
Which would you choose please?
Thank you.

I personally would go with Avast.
It does better on tests (most of the time) than AVG, it's light on resources and runs quietly in the background (for me at least).

Not sure where you are looking but KIS 2014 has all the features of previous versions including the firewall, I have had it installed since last year on three computers.

Either or will suit your needs. Pick the one you like the name of best, it's just as good a way of deciding as asking on here. You will get people pushing their preference, usually based on the fact that they use it.

I posted the page before which opens when I click on "buy license renewal", but then noticed it led to another page which shows a specific order number which I presume relates to my specific account so though I'd better remove it.
Basically, the page appears to compare the respective features available on Internet Security 14 and Pure. There are red dots against most of the Pure components, but these are mostly missing where Int. Security 14 is concerned, including Firewall.
I actually think it is an error and they are included, but Kaspersky have not replied to my account enquiry sent nearly two weeks ago, plus a reminder, so I am quite annoyed.
I may well phone them to tell them what I think of their customer service.

I don't think there is much difference between AVG and Avast in what they do, but there may be in how they do it and how that affects your system. I used to use AVG, then switched to Avast, and prefer the latter as it seems less intrusive.
You could of course try one then the other, to see which you prefer. Just make sure you uninstall the one completely. It's best to use something like Revo Uninstaller for this, as it takes out a lot of rubbish remaining after an ordinary delete. That's true for any deletions BTW.

    Of the two, Avast.

I usually only see AVG on people's computers when I run a proper virus scan and once that's found threats, AVG pops up to say "Oh yeah, this is a threat"

Or preferably use the following dedicated removal tools:

    Avast - http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
    AVG - http://www.avg.com/us-en/utilities
