Do I have a legal duty to return items wrongly delivered?

  • Nope is true about John Lewis. After three failures of their staff to pick it up they basically gave up and said they could keep it. Maybe because it was delivered to the wrong person and therefore no proof of who had actually received it, I don't know. No I wasn't seeking validation to commit a crime. The courier company should be sorting out their mess though, and not me! But have no fear - the neighbours have been reunited with their stuff. And unsurprisingly not so much as a thank you!! Should've dumped them back at the depot and let them sort it!

You should have dropped note to neighbours asking them to collect from you.

How you can take two parcels from Harrods (spend much there do you?) that you can't lift without realising theres a problem. Surely you know what you ordered for your daughter, if it was something so heavy you couldn't lift it?

You wished you knew that your neighbours would be reimbursed so you could keep the packages. Glad you're not my neighbour...

  • Well I drove then carried to the neighbours. I couldn't see where the parcels where from - as pouted out several times they were loaded straight into my car-no idea wether they were light or heavy. I said I was waiting for parcels for my daughters presents-not what I had ordered. Presents from relatives-and yes they do shop at Harrods. Good for them!! Just didn't want them having to hang around in my car for long as it's a convertible and I couldn't get my roof down. I'm glad I'm not your neigbour either you said very judgemental and self righteous !

I find it totally unbelivable that John Lewis would allow someone who hasn't paid for a computer to keep just because it was mis-delivered... more likely your friend never informed them they had it( not implying you are telling porkies, but more that your friend is!)
While i'm sure we can all appreciate it was a small inconvienience for you driving to the depot you have actually come on here wanting validation to commit a crime...while it wouldn't be the crime of the century it's still illegal and theft is rarely a victimless crime and you would be a thief.
There is also the possibility that the postman/deliveryman/depot worker would realise their mistake if UK mail or Harrods decided on an investigation. Or they may insist your neighbours have recieved the order and refuse a refund/replacement.

I wouldn't doubt that, when I worked in sales in between uni terms one of the products the company had a contract for was to sell the Insanity DVD's - One lady received a Deluxe pack by mistake and she was honest enough to ring up, (at the time worth around £149.99), manager advised me to tell her just to keep it.

Why? Around about this time last year I got told to keep a VERY expensive bit of kit sent to me in error by Amazon. I'm talking very valuable. I was told to keep it. As I ordered a MAC accessory. I also got sent to me, separately, addressed to me a very expensive, top end bit of photography kit, with someone else's invoice in it.

I notified them, up shot is, they only refund basic return postage. I refused as not a chance was I opening myself upto any liability. As it was not my order, they could not raise a return. So they told me, in writing to keep it.

Harrods ship their goods in boxes that have Harrods plastered all over them, you would have known if you had ordered from them or not in the first place plus seen that from the boxes.

Me feels like you really are a chancer, I am glad you are not my neighbour as well!!!
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted:)
    I live in my head - I find it's safer there:p

Have you actually read their posts? It was their daughters birthday, therefore boxes were coming from other people as well.
