Do I have a legal duty to return items wrongly delivered?

Yeah my issue was less with anythin against the neighbours but annoyed at UKmail for firstly wrongly posting the delivery card to me. Then letting me arrange to pick it up - no name required or shown just my post code and the reference number on delivery card. And then wastin my time and petrol diving to pick it up and they checked my ID thoroughly only to still give me the item! I also experienced a parcel once left with a neighbour who then denied having it and the company simply refunded me. For all they knew I could have got the parcel but they didn't bother checking. Of course I'd never want my neighbours losing out but if I knew they'd get refunded anyway I would hold on to the stuff.0

No one here is going to advocate stealing (which is what keeping things that don't belong to you is)
If you want that you need to post elsewhere.0 -
No advocation required thanks all the same.0

You collected them from the depot and had the chance at that point to check the delivery name and address before taking them.
The fact that you didn't and still took them means that it is now up to you to sort out getting them to the correct recipient. It could be argued that you have misappropriated the items (abeit through your negligence).
The problem now is not the suppliers as you have physically gone to their depot and collected them but yours. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Yes thanks that was what I was afraid of. I was not even able to see a name on them. But as I say my ID was checked by them and was obviously not only my name different but my address too. As I've also said he loaded straight into my car for me so at no point was I actually able to see a name. And obviously usually I'd have given it more thought but as it was my daughters birthday and I was awaiting two more parcels for her I really didn't think anything of it. Just goes to show how easy your stuff can go walkabouts though doesn't it!!0

Have you not given them to your neighbour yet?0

Seeing as I was at work until 5 then up London my my daughters birthday and got back at midnight. Then had to be up at 6 for work today not yet no. Not really appropriate to knock in that 6 hour window.0

I find it totally unbelivable that John Lewis would allow someone who hasn't paid for a computer to keep just because it was mis-delivered... more likely your friend never informed them they had it( not implying you are telling porkies, but more that your friend is!)
While i'm sure we can all appreciate it was a small inconvienience for you driving to the depot you have actually come on here wanting validation to commit a crime...while it wouldn't be the crime of the century it's still illegal and theft is rarely a victimless crime and you would be a thief.
There is also the possibility that the postman/deliveryman/depot worker would realise their mistake if UK mail or Harrods decided on an investigation. Or they may insist your neighbours have recieved the order and refuse a refund/replacement.0
