I've wanted a breadmaker for ages. Before I found MSE.com I would have bought a breadmaker on credit and paid way over the odds for it just to have it right away.
With my new MSE attitude, I decided to save up for one instead (using some ideas in the PIN money threads
), and it's lucky I did because I found a Morphy Richards breadmaker (the brand I wanted) at a car boot sale this morning for £2. £2!!!!
It's the 48230 fastbake model, it makes cakes and jam and all sorts of fancy stuff, and all it needed was a wipe down. I downloaded the manual from the Morphy Richards site and made my first loaf this afternoon.
I am so happy I waited.

You jammy little devil
that is the same one I got for £39 from Amazon and I thought I did well because I got free delivery!
I got it on Friday and am making my sixth loaf as hubbie and kids are eatig it faster than I can bake :rotfl:
Hubbie is hinting that I make my own pizza tomorrow and kids are keen that we try fruit loaf etc.
Enjoy your machine and very well done.:T"This site is addictive!"

Well done, bluemoon, that's an amazing bargain!!!
I was a bit sceptical about breadmachines when I first heard about them a few years ago, it was never on my "wish list" ... until I saw one at a bargain half price (it was cheap even at original price!) and decided I'd risk it and see - we've not looked back! It's not just making your own bread and the divine aroma as it bakes, but also the fact we no longer have to nip out for a loaf and end up spending goodness knows how much on the extra's we'd pick up as well!
I'm delighted the Pin Money thread gave you the tips/inspiration to kickstart your savings
elona - when we made pizza in ours, there is enough dough to make one huge pizza or if you're canny, make two and freeze oneWe found the satiation value of a hm dough much higher than a store bought/take away so we didn't need such a large helping LOL
You may want to have a peek at this website for bread machine recipes RecipeSource but only look when you have a good half hour to spare! Also good if you're looking for fat-free bread recipes is this one Low Fat Vegetarian Bread Machine Recipes

I made a huge home made rectangular pizza on Monday - everyone loved it - even hubbie who hates pizza - I found out he disliked stuff that was not home made!
Darling daughter who when informed of the idea of having home made pizza- said sniffily that bought stuff would have the proper herbs etc in it!
Has just informed father that it was the best pizza that she has ever had!
Guess what we are having tonight?"This site is addictive!"

Sounds like you've heard of my tip - I've always thought the best place for a bargain breadmaker or unused footspa, was your local car boot sale!!
Does ANYONE use those things more than once!!??!!

Haha, I've used mine at least once everyday since I got it.
Best £2 I ever spent.Sealed Pot Challenge 5 - #1742 :j0 -
bluemoon - @ £2 investment + using it DAILY .... methinks you have *more* than recouped your "investment" ... that is BRILLIANT!!! :j
How about jams/cakes??? Have you tried? Have they been to your liking, or have you felt disappointed with those aspects?
Whichever! If giving you your daily bread for a mere £2 investment ... I am thrilled for YOU!!!

Thank you.
I haven't tried the jams or cakes yet, but I have made things like bagels, pasta, pizza dough and sweet breads . . .
I used to make things like this by hand anyway, but the breadmaker means we can have them far more frequently.
I would say that I have already saved a LOT because the only bread I now buy is a Tesco tiger loaf once a week for DH. And Tesco bread flour is only about 60p for 1.5kg. The rest of the ingredients are pence, so my 'investment' is certainly a great money-saving device!
And setting the timer to wake up to the delicious smell of baking bread is one of the most basic pleasures in life.
I can still barely believe it. I can often be caught blowing kisses at my lovely breadmaker when I enter my kitchen.Sealed Pot Challenge 5 - #1742 :j0 -
You lucky devil. I got mine for £35 using a £5 voucher at Argos. I was also a bit unsure when I bought it, but decided to take the plunge...and have never looked back since.
As for pizzas, they are scrummy. They are usually an interesting shape...we had a heart shaped one last night. Dear other half was inventive with the left over dough and tried to make a garlic bread. He mashed up some garlic with butter and put it in the middle of a sausage shaped bit of dough. Turned out rather well.
My breadmaker spends most of its life on the kitchen worktop. I can see me putting the microwave in the cupboard and replacing it with the breadmaker.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

My breadmaker lives on the worktop now and I am making dough for homemade rolls.
Jam does not seem to set very much and it is more like a "conserve" but delicious!!!!!
