If you are running (or exercising) a lot, then a good protein shake post-workout will be an advantage as it will help muscle recovery. However, most protein powders available via health food shops are of such a bad quality, they can do more harm than good (added flavourings, poor quality whey, many contains pesticides and hormones (from bad quality whey) and artificial sweeteners) - seriously damaging for the liver and kidneys. Plus whenever the protein powder cost something like £20 for a kg, it means it was produced at high temperatures, so the amount of protein listed on the label isn't the same that your body will end up absorbing (part of it is destroyed during heating)

However, a good protein shake is the best source of fast-digesting protein post-exercise, just go with either Solgar or Pulsin. They are more expensive, but they are of a pharmaceutical grade and pure.
