    *yawn* This one again...

That's been proven to be wrong many times

Also, even if it was correct, I'd rather die at 40 after a life of eating good, enjoyable natural food than miserable at 100 after a life of eating corporate, mass-produced space food.

If eating how nature intended really does make you die at 40 then that's called population control, what gives you or any suited corporate loser the right to play god?

What's God got to do with anything? It's called evolution.

Evolution made our bodies pretty good, right? Personally I'm a massive fan!

But then, it went one better and gave us these incredible brains, that can do so much more stuff.

Do you think, back in the day, people saw man holding a stick and went "put that down! It's not what you've been *designed* to do!"...

We were *designed* to be killed by an array of common and curable conditions that are now easily treated.

We were *designed* to travel at 3 or 4 miles per hour, a limitation of our physical design that our mental design has helped us to overcome.

And that's what it boils down to - our brilliant brain has enabled us to overcome many of the limitations of our imperfect body. We've built houses to stop us dying of cold (look at us play God! that winter was supposed to kill us!), we've built tools to help us hunt and cook, we've invented medicines and medical procedures to heal the sick - we can even transplant organs from the dead.

Personally, I'm going to do whatever I can to lead a long and happy life. You can let the next minor ailment kill you in the name of "population control". Each to their own.

Ive found the Meal replacement (USN Diet Fuel) \ recovery (Science In Sports) type drinks to be more beneficial than the bulking up ones available - particulary if the aim is fitness improvement..

Yes proper food would be great - but Im not sure how fresh food wood fair in the Gym bag all day long - much more hygienic to add water to shaker & powder to give something to drink on the way home..

I've used shakes after runs. I really struggle to eat after running.

If you're doing cardio, you're much better toddling around with an electrolyte solution in your hand. Something like this:
    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/high5-high5-zero-electrolyte-20-tab-buy-1-get-1-free/

Will replace the stuff you lose in sweat and help you feel much less wiped out after a hard session.

Thanks for the tip on electrolytes:D - i think i could have used some of these on Sunday as the spin class i attended completely wiped me out. It was much more intense and fast paced than the class i attended during the week. Just after the class i decided i wouldnt go back to his class again but in hindsight despite it being really hard going , i enjoyed it.:)

If it doesn't actually kill you, but it feels like you've had your bottom kicked, it's probably the best class to be in :)

I use protein shakes to help me take psyllium husks (PH).

If I add the PH to water and cordial, the PH just sticks to the sides of the glass.

Taking it mixed into the protein shake means I get just about all the PH.

I also take the protein shake (with PH) to fill out a small meal.

Toxic fad, don't eat chemicals, eat real food that your body was designed to eat

No product that any company comes up with can replace what nature provided you with

Eh, Protein Shakes are Whey based, not chemical?

Agreed on all counts with idiophreak.

I only take a protein shake after run that is longer than 75 mins, unless I am really really exhausted and know I have a hard session coming up.

If you are running for less than an hour you probably wont want/need fuel or water with you - it will slow you down to carry something. I go for about 90 mins long run with no fuel but feel awful during the last mile. I only take electrolyte drink for running between 1hr 20 and 2hrs.

I personally like Accelerade which is a mix of carbs and protein, so a recovery drink - probably more calorific than myprotein shakes, but I find they are great for quick refuelling and the level of protein seems to work for me in terms of recovery as opposed to building up.

Don't worry, Rash doesn't eat or drink anything that nature didn't explicitly intend.

Bread? Hells no! Bread don't grow on no trees!

Pasteurised milk? What work of the devil is this!

Eggs screened for salmonella? If God wants you to die, it's just your time to go!

...and don't even get started on "cooked meat"! *shudder*

Many people follow a paleo diet and take protein shakes as well, it doesnt have to be one or the other.
