Hi guys was wondering what the blight situation was like near you. Our potatoes were showing the first signs of it so we whipped them out now our tomatoes appear to have it now.
Here is a picture of our Tomato Blight on plants
Our location is notorious for blight but this is the first year we have had any issues?
Whats your plot like? better? worse? don't grow tomatoes because of the problem? have a solution to blight?
Other news from the plot this week. 15 kilo of poataoes are liftted, shallots and onions are near ripe. First runners are seen, more fruit and the atlantic giant fruit has formed.
Regards

Not much to report, in the same position as you by the looks of it.
I was clear until the weekend, then noticed my spud in a pot was showing signs, today I spotted it on some tomatoes
I have always had this problem, normally keeps away until much later in the year, and I do have to sprayWhen an eel bites your bum, that's a Moray0 -
This year i have planted my first crop of potatoes, they stopped flowering 3 weeks ago (planted in large buckets approx 4 plants in each) The leave had strated to go specy on the leaves is this blit? The yeild from the first 2 buckets wasn't very good either.0

We spotted blight on our earlies a couple of weeks ago - firstly sprayed, then cut them down, and have now had to cut down the second earlies as well. We're spraying to try and keep it off the maincrop but TBH with this weather don't hold out much hope - apparently other people on the allotments have dug up their potatoes and found they're rotting in the ground...
Tomatoes are fine (so far) as they're all in a greenhouse. We're in Dorset.0 -
Have had no problem with the potatoes, but have already pulled up two tomato plants which were affected.
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Just discovered we have got the tomatoe blight, too!
First time in > 10 years of growing tomatoes, first time there has been any serious trouble.
Is there any hope? I have cut of all the leaves that are effected, also a few rotting little baby toms, but there are patches on the lower stems of the plant. Will spraying do any good at this stage
And what do I spray them with? Usually pride myself trying not to use many chemicals, haven't needed to.
Early potatoes were okay by the way. Other end of the garden, a few still in the ground but most of them safely eaten or dug up.
Help please !!!0 -
This is all new to me as we've only had out allotment for 18 months. What am I looking for with blight in potatoes?
I love your blog Lottieblog - very informative. I've put it in my favourites to keep up to date xxJanuary budget

I'd also appreciate some advice on this - never had blight before. One grow bag x 3 plants plus 3 pots x 3 plants affected to varying degree for last 10 days. Other plants in different part of garden OK. I've not cut any leaves/small fruits off yet, should I and what to spray with ?
If I just gave up on them is it safe to stick the plants in the compost heap ?0 -
My toms are looking a bit grey as well so I suspect they've got it. I'll have a wander to the garden centre at lunchtime to see if there is anything I can do, but as there are only two which were spares from a neighbour (we've recently moved so veg growing is a new project yet to fully get off the ground!) I'm not going to stress too much if we lose them (especially as we don't actually eat that many tomatoes). I'm guessing that as its more prevalent in wet conditions this summer has been perfect for it.
One of the challenges of growing your own I guess - will be more cheesed off if my runner beans or strawberries catch something as they are doing well.Adventure before Dementia!0 -
