Would taxing property values be fairer than the Council Tax?

The only risk to the people comes from the government and their mercenary military/police force.
You see, we could have had an intelligent conversation, and then you go and say something as stupid as this.
If you genuinely believe that other citizens don't steal, kill, or otherwise harm each other, then it's not worth wasting any time on you. You are self-evidently completely wrong.
Why would you claim something that you know not to be true?0 -

Other citizens do things like that but only because of the position that they're put into by capitalism.
Also, I don't want the protection of the police force and certainly not the army (who I believe to be terrorists), I should have the option to opt out of paying for that.0 -
I would say 'no' they shouldn't to the original question partly because if I choose to spend most of my disposable income on a nice home and others may spend theirs on holidays/booze/drugs.gambling/pets or whatever (as is their right), why should I have to pay more council tax for using the same services?
All adults should pay for council tax (with discounts etc for low waged etc) and it should have nothing to do with the actual property as 6 people in a small house are still using more local facilities than 1 in a big house."'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

Let's call it a Community Charge or Poll Tax.
I'm sure that it will work well!0 -
Actually I'm a bit tired of local democracy. Let's just have council officials employed directly by the government, and then abolish all these self-seeking councillors granting each other planning permission for dubious property deals.
Then we wouldn't need rates at all - just add the costs onto income tax. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I agree - the 'poll tax' was a sensible idea but, if I recall correctly, just didn't have enough safeguards built in for the low waged/disabled etc."'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

there are certainly people that think the richer should pay more than the less rich to state provided services and there are people that disagree.
one might suppose that the majority, including the rich, think that the poor should pay less.0
