My cousin used to live next door to a nosey woman. It was virtually impossible to get in or out of the house without she was there in the front garden: "Going out, then?", "Been somewhere nice?".

It always puzzled me how she managed it, she must have spent every waking hour at the front window. Even if you parked a few yards up the road and tried to creep in she would still be there!

While I can understand your view its just possible that the person is lonely or trying to make conversation.
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

Your cousin didn't use to own my house did she?:rotfl: I do wonder what exactly my next door neighbour does other than watch out their window all the time;). Sure 'nuff, a visitor of mine yesterday prompted her to make an excuse to come out when they came and another excuse to come out when they left....

To me, its very intrusive that they have this attitude and I manage not to comment on it, because they must know in their heart of hearts that its obvious to me that they don't have a life (or they'd be too busy to be so nosy).

I collected so many lame ducks over the years before I realised that it was not up to me to solve everybody else's problems. That and the discovery that there's often a good reason why someone doesn't have any friends.

If you feed a stray you can expect it to follow you home. If a person tries to involve themselves in your business to that extent when you are barely even acquaintances, imagine what they will feel entitled to if you encourage them. They won't understand that you're only being polite. There's a thread going on one of the other forums about that exact problem. You'll have to throw (metaphorical) stones to get them out of your kitchen... not a position you want to be in with a neighbour.

Here's a radical idea - you could always pop next door and ask them round for a cup of tea and then see what you can find out. You know, talk to them or something.....

And where's the fun in that? :)

I've heard she could have been from the nosy neighbours police.

I don’t know if anyone can help but a strange thing is going on next door.

The other day a friend of mine came around for tea in her nice new car and I showed her how I am thinking of planting my garden.

She now tells me that a friend of hers has seen a post on the interweb from my neighbour wanting to know what she was doing.

Do you think that I should go round and explain?

Has the neighbour got pampas grass growing in the front garden, perchance? I learned something about that from this very forum.....
