Euros or Sterling?

A few years ago my husband and I went to Gibraltar and were wrongly advised to take Euros. Next week we are off to Portugal and husband thinks sterling will be ok (!!) I think he's wrong and they will only accept Euros. The Gib thing is because its ours and not Spanish. Am I right??

British coins and Bank of England notes circulate in Gibraltar and are universally accepted and interchangeable with Gibraltar issues.

Yes Portugal will only take Euros.

Where is he getting this information on GBP in Portugal?
And Gibraltar is GBP and they have their own Sterling notes, which are all legal tender as GBP

If you want to buy some in advance then avoid your local bank as there rate of exchange will be poor.

I've recently used Thomas Cook but you need to book the amount and rate in advance via their website and then pick up in store. The rates are quite competitve for the high street.

And Yes, you need to purchase euro!

    Hope this helps
