New car
Options
I've had a 2002 Suzuki Alto 3 door since I passed my driving test (gifted to me by my nan who stopped driving). Although it's a great little car, it has no power steering/is 993cl/extremely basic interior. My OH will also be using my car once he's passed his driving test, so I was thinking of getting a slight upgrade. A friend from work is now selling her car (2002 Peugeot 207 1.1l 3 door) which is in pretty good condition. Her car has been valued at £225 by We buy Any Car but she thinks she can get more privately. I told her I was interested and she said I could view it/test drive it if I wanted. However, she said she's hoping to sell it for £995!
She did say that if it was being sold to a friend she would sell it for less, but I wonder how much less...
I would sell my car for hopefully £500, so I was assuming hers would be around that mark (maybe a little more, but not that much!)
WWYD?

I'd have a look on the Autotrader web site to see what similar cars are going for, that should give you a good idea. Personally I would expect to pay a higher price for the Peugeot than the Suzuki. We buy any car, in my opinion, always offer low prices as they don't retail the vehicles and sell through car auctions.0

I would laugh at her thinking she's going to be get £995 for it. Take a look on Autotrader.
EDIT: Beaten to it
EDIT2: Seems the Suzuki is actually more expensive! I guess it's cheaper to tax/insure/run and that's what a lot of people seek these days.0 -

I'm just having a look at autotrader now. If I can haggle her down to a more reasonable price, do you think it's worth it?0 -

Ouch ... have you looked up insurance prices on both cars? a small jump might be much more expensive/
He's already a named driver on my current insurance policy (so I can take him out for practice) and it's an extra £21 per month (which he pays for). I would need to look up the cost of insuring us both on the new car. He's a over 25, so hopefully it won't be ridiculous money
I've seen a couple of ads for 2003 Peugeots on Gumtree, but varying in price. One's selling for £950, the other for £350!0 -
Insurance for learners is much cheaper than insurance for new drivers. Because learners have to be supervised.0

Just did a quote online and it's roughly the same as what I'm currently paying. She told me how much tax she pays which is £10 more expensive than mine, so not a big difference.0

1.1 litre 206? That's gonna be fairly gutless. See how much extra a 1400 would be to insure.0

I have no idea what that means...:o0

It means a 1.4 litre engine instead of a 1.1 litre. Bigger and a bit more power.0
