Whatever her current premium is, my point is that it will increase after she passes her test, and it is possible she will then have to cancel the current policy and buy a new one.

Just preparing her for the shock of motoring costs after the end of the euphoria of getting a pass

I've checked both. My provisional insurance was £700 for the year. Need to ring my insurance company when and if I pass but from other quotes it goes up to £900. Without OH on it the price goes up to £1400.

And also, just because I'm young doesn't mean I don't know a thing about how much things cost. Not many people can say they're in the financial position I am in at this age (and not be living with parents or renting!)

I don't imagine many of them have an OH who is considerably older than them either.

True, but that's what I mean. I'm 21, he's 30 (I won't tell him you said considerably older - he's already on the verge of a midlife crisis since hitting the Big 30 last month!)

The main point is, with or without OH I know how much a car costs as I have done plenty of research on it as I had been intending to do my lessons at 17 but kept putting it off due to it being so expensive!

It's not like I am committing fraud and putting OH as the main driver and myself as the secondary - I don't see what the problem is if I'm doing it the right way and I can afford to do so, knowing full well the costs of running a car.

No you are acting both properly and sensibly but you have failed to identify that some forum contributors won't have that. You must be mad, stupid, uncaring, unthinking, !!!!less and above all incapable of thinking any problem through the way you have done.

I passed my test 3 years ago.

I am the calmest person you could ever meet. My instructor used to say I should have a mattress strapped to my back. The night before and the day off the test I was bricking it - first time I have ever felt that scared about anything!

    A couple of tips:
    - Theyre not expecting you to be perfect, theyre expecting you to be safe. So stick to the speed limits, even just below them. Take your time, dont take any risks (better safe than sorry). They are not looking to catch you out.
    - (Sounds like a daft one) Have a banana before the test. It has something in it which helps to calm you down. I was bricking myself so im not sure it worked but I passed first time with 4 minors (1 of which I still to now dispute but im not going to complain).

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it.

OH picked me up in my car yesterday for a mini lesson. Got halfway up the road and my L plate flew off!

I passed my test just short of 2 years ago. Remember that if you were to rack up 6 points after your test pass within the first 2 years its back to Learner and your license is revoked.

Sounds a lot to rack up but in reality just 2 speeding fines in 2 years will make the 6 points. And if you get one lot of points then you will drive like a nervous wreck knowing that another lot will send you back down the ladder.

Keep to the limits and take it easy, if any idiot wants to tailgate them let him overtake, better in front than behind.

On the prep side for the test have a look at youtube. There is a whole driving test on there recorded by the DVLA. It will give you an inside to what to expect on the day.

    Best of luck!!!
